With the official revelation of Skirk, Tartaglia’s enigmatic mentor, HoYoVerse has certainly created quite a storm around Genshin Impact. The fans are already losing their minds about it.
The announcement came through the official Twitter account of the game, in the form of a character showcase labeled as “Void Star” Skirk, with the hashtags #FightLikeSkirk and lore downloads that would make any historian from Teyvat break a sweat. Skirk is a combat instructor for Tartaglia and a disciple of “The Foul” Surtalogi (yeah, I suppose we’ll need someone to explain that title to us some time). She has been training alone in the Abyss for as long as anyone can remember; so, this is probably the most frightening fighter one can encounter in the game.
This tweet offered no fewer than two links at once—one to watch her full intro and another with footage showing just how raw her combat prowess is. And, goodness, watching her abilities is terrifying; it is Abyssian magic that makes the water blades of Tartaglia look like nothing more than pool noodles.
The replies were louder than any Dendro core reaction happening. Players are best divided between those going into frenzy and those being hit with wallet-pains. One user @vishuchopade04 boldly shouted, “I am ready come at me. I have 200 pulls.” In stark contrast, another poor soul named @Yuukana lamented, “Only have 90 pulls…I…must….resist,” along with a crying Paimon meme; that will probably not end well.
They’re not sold, though: @shanachan_ ranted that the kit is only “flexible” if you own specific 5-star characters, whereas @nuvaoi53993 harshly said, “Too bad she is not F2P friendly.” Ouch! The meta slaves are already theorycrafting; @The_Saracen__ even authored an entire essay on pairing her with Neuvillette for obscene burst damage combos.
And the lore buffs are having an absolute field day. @dailytribbie_ noted how Skirk treats the whale that gave trouble to both Traveler and Neuvillette as basically a warm-up for practice, indicating that our protagonist might soon receive some serious power ups. And a discussion wouldn’t be complete without hearing the Childe fans debate whether he’s fat or not (@milayadariko we see you calling him lardass).
The true question is: when does she drop? No release date has been set so far. So, players find themselves in this weird kind of gacha hell, not knowing whether to start saving or keep pulling on current banners. @ant11fly is of the hardline opinion, stating “I will not summon for her or any other new or rerun character until mualani gets a rerun.” Very respect-worthy.
One thing is for sure; The introduction of Skirk shakes Genshin Impact power scaling to its core. If she is strong enough to train Tartaglia and just laugh around at Abyss monsters, we might be talking of yet another top-tier level for our playable characters. Will she be worth your primogems? That depends entirely on your playstyle, but the hype train has left the station at this very moment.
As for me? Sitting here holding my 50/50 pity with a dream. Maybe I’ll get lucky. Maybe I’ll get my twelfth Qiqi. It’s a gacha life, baby. Check out the official links to see her in action (just don’t blame me if you start compulsively saving every primogem).
