There’s a chance that Ethan, Mia, and Rose Winters won’t show up in Resident Evil 9. Director Kento Kinoshita has stated that the Winters family will receive a fitting conclusion in the upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC, Shadows of Rose.

Later this year, players can look forward to the release of Shadows of Rose, the lone DLC pack for Resident Evil Village. In addition to meeting Rosemary, Ethan, and Mia’s kid, and returning to Castle Dimitrescu, players will say farewell to all the new characters introduced in Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.

IGN Japan spoke with Capcom‘s Kento Kinoshita, who confirmed that the studio is working on a new story called Shadows of Rose to wrap up the Winters family saga. It appears that the next installment in the Resident Evil series, about which we know next to nothing, will explore uncharted territory.

There is, of course, always the chance that Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and possibly even other characters from previous games, will return for Resident Evil 9, however, the game could also have an entirely new cast. As for what comes after the impending Resident Evil 4 remake, producer Masachika Kawata said the team could “absolutely not” reveal any details.

Based on the conclusion of the primary story in Resident Evil Village, some players might have guessed that Ethan Winters wouldn’t be the protagonist in the next installment. In spite of this, it appears like Capcom has decided to conclude his family’s story with the impending downloadable content. All we can do now is wait for the answers to our many remaining questions.

You need not worry that returning to Castle Dimitrescu in Shadows of Rose would make you feel like you’re playing a side quest if you already played the main game. Eric Switzer, our features editor, described the mansion’s new pace and tone in a review. Starting on December 2, you can play Resident Evil: Village Shadows of Rose on the cloud on your Nintendo Switch if you preordered the game on October 28.
