Epic Games is keeping the free games rolling along in 2021 on their store. Starting next week, PC gamers will have the chance to pick up EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 for nothing. If you’re a fan of the series and haven’t yet added it to your collection, next week is your window of opportunity.
Battlefront 2 picks up where the 2015 reboot left off. It follows the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, with players taking on the role of Iden Versio — the commander of a group of Imperial Soldiers. Players also get the chance to play as some iconic characters during certain levels, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Kylo Ren.
Fans had a lot of expectations after the 2015 reboot, but unfortunately, this follow-up was received with mixed reviews at launch. It has a lot of decent elements, especially in regards to the multiplayer modes and the fighting mechanics both on the ground and in space.
However, the single-player modes and progression system weren’t received the same. Fans were put off by them, so much so that the developer had to nix microtransactions as to build back some good faith they had lost at launch.
Since Battlefront 2’s release, it has received a ton of DLC that furthers the story and gives fans of the series new storylines to enjoy. That has been huge in turning things around for EA Dice. They wanted to do better and for many, they have done a good job with the new content.
This offering on Epic Games Store will be the Celebration Edition, which is unique in that it includes all cosmetic options. The recent updates also will be available. That’s a lot of content to enjoy right out of the gate if you decide to check out this freebie next week.
If you’re a Star Wars fan, Battlefront 2 is a worthy sequel that expands some of the lore and features some competent combat. It may lack in certain areas, but you can look past them if you go into this action shooter with the right mindset.
It’s amazing to see how far the series has come over the years. Battlefront 2 highlights some promising aspects that fans have come to expect. And you really can’t go wrong with the multiplayer. There are just so many modes and so many fun ways to engage in the Star Wars universe with others. That’s probably where this game shines brightest.
