Rare’s Sea of Thieves has historically been a title that has prospered at the heart of players’ stories—the madcap, chaotic, and sometimes downright nefarious happenings as the pirates voyage down the Open Sea. Having management respond to the official Twitter account asking players to submit a fact about their pirates is one of those occurrences that forged the funniest moments in Internet history. The responses? Pure pandemonium, just as one would imagine.
The tweet read, “You’ve been rattled! Post a fact about your Sea of Thieves pirate.” Scores of folks currently upgrading their stories, joking, or outright memeing about their in-game alter egos came out in hundreds. Just say it: The Sea of Thieves crew never did disappoint.
Let’s hear a little more of the toxic jokes. Tansey said, “I fall off ships especially my own……a lot lol.” Truly? Honestly. Anyone that has played Sea of Thieves for five minutes has probably fallen off into the ocean at least once. WutchUkno meanwhile, says, “He’s shot himself out of a cannon more than he’s shot cannons.” Uhm, yeah—In other words, right? The unspoken moment when you instead rather launch yourself out into the big blue than blast the enemy ship is absolutely a rite of passage.
Then there are the pirates with lore: Catalina Flameheart has a backstory: “Catalina collects glass eyes with different shapes and colors, even though she doesn’t like to change her greyed-out glass eye. The only exception is when she’s witnessing a Curse Ceremony, where she uses a solid black eye with the hourglass Reaper symbol.” Now that’s some really heavy-duty RP right there! Meanwhile, Wheat856’s pirate got an escape from Sea of the Damned after being slain by the legendary Shrouded Ghost, promising to take revenge. Is it dramatic? For sure. Is it completely on-brand for Sea of Thieves? 100%.
In true boasting fashion, Brotocal added, “He is hung, handsome, and humble.” Sure, buddy. MrJannusSot, on the other hand, declared proudly, “He sinks people just to sink on 20 streak.” Savage. Some pirates do it for gold, and others do it for violence. No judgments.
The best are who lean into this. KoboldZiel’s pirate is “very Obsessed with hoarding these shiny round rocks found in barrels.” (We all know that one crewmate that hoards cannonballs like a dragon guarding treasure.) Meanwhile, Jack Grimm’s Pirate “drinks an appearance potion every season just to try new outfits.” Fashion is the real endgame.
There are also cursed answers. Like Laces: “My pirate ain’t gay like yall.” Cut that; that’ll probably curse me. Aceguns1980 also took the chance to shout in pain: “My pirate is disappointed at the very lack luster content of the past 2 seasons.” Oof. Might want to take notes, Rare.
Some responses were cuter. Traverse’s pirate “loves the seas and adventure of discovery” and unlocked their first big achievement with the Chronicler of Legend tat set. Likewise, Limesprout’s pirate “loves Halloween, using the spooky bucket all year round.” Adorable indeed.
Probably iconic, however, was TimStatic’s response: “My pirate has the largest nose on any sea in any galaxy,” accompanied by a screenshot that demanded such a statement—now no further questions.
That entire thread captures a snapshot of what exactly makes the Sea of Thieves community special: The players are not just sailing around; they’re producing their own stories, inside jokes, and legendary-(or disastrous) reputations development. It could be falling off ships, hoarding trinkets, or swearing vengeance on a mythical sea beast; every pirate has a story.
Respectfully, no way. That is unchangeable for us. If you haven’t clicked on the thread yet, do yourself a favor and go social for a minute. Just try not to fall off your own ship while laughing.
