Inaugural launch: chaos; debates brewing at the Sea of Thieves, regarding the Best Figurehead. Further adding fuel to this bonfire was Rare with a sly tweet: “What’s the best figurehead and why is it the Killer Whale Figurehead?!” Absolute chaos.

Reason number one to consider: The Killer Whale Figurehead is in the very debate. That means, check with Grok, the reputed Sea of Thieves knowledge hub: You get this on hitting Hunter’s Call Level 50 – that’s no easy feat. Rare, does not see much attention in the game, and yeah, it gives your ship that badass look of something crashing down an aquatic battering ram; really good at the front. But the best? Well… depends on whom you ask.

Some go for the Golden Chaser, much like @HorrorBusiness3 in style, while others are pushing for the Spinel Figurehead for that unmistakable Killer Instinct nostalgia vibes from @SouthJerseySam. Then there are the die-hard supporters for LeChuck on @TheDadVader-another blast from the past from 1990; and of course, let’s not forget the Dark Adventurers Figurehead costing 8 million gold, good enough for any Pirate Legend, if you’ve fancy showing off.

And here is where it starts to heat up. “That’s swordfish not an Orca AKA a killer whale,” said @VTdukehector, clearly calling out Rare for getting it wrong. Oof. Gotta have some respect to detail, guys. Then here comes @kunaiea, looking forward to killer-whale stuff getting into the game: “I want orca things!!” Me too.

Drama. @Dsbo13 then went on to complain about servers being flooded with Reapers, making it impossible to do anything aside from Tall Tales. Then, @2nutsinyamouth went into full manifesto demanding Rare drop support for the last-gen, “in order to save the game.” Yikes.

Besides all that mayhem, @gaming_4nj4 and @BeardBerserk gave some big love to LGBTQ+ pirate crews, because even in the middle of boat decoration debates, the Sea of Thieves community stays inclusive. Shoutout to @Shartgod420 for the “gay pirate enjoyer” solidarity.

So what’s the verdict? Not much. The best figurehead is the one that resonates with your inner pirate-whether it is the grind-worthy Killer Whale, the flex-worthy Dark Adventurers, or one that just fits your ship’s vibe. But Rare knows how to make a mess. And that’s one good enough reason for me to go fishing. Hunter’s Call shall level itself.
