Firstly, for those who don’t now, the Burning Blade in-game is a cursed weapon that is set on fire, basically an inconvenience to anyone trying to start a campfire—with more of an intent to destroy anything pirate from a distance. But, gamers have found the stupidest uses for such objects.

The tweet was simple: “Can you light a campfire with the Burning Blade?” followed by a highly comedic video. And the replies? Absolutely priceless. Some answered confidently that “Ummm, of course you can.” Other people proceeded to roast the mechanics of the game (pun fully intended).

User @jonathancoe113 bluntly said, “another way to light yee fires… with the help of the burning blade. At least it’s good for something 😹.” Honestly, that’s the kind of spirit we need more of in 2024! @CaptainGG_R, on the other hand, said: “but it’s very simple with the lantern.🤣” Okay, sure, but where’s the fun in that?

In return, some of the players completely went off-topic to air grievances. Classic. @patrickyoungk and @Moiquid were both bitter about never getting their Twitch drop pants. Like, guys, we’re talking about setting things on fire here, not your disappearing digital trousers.

Most of all, the real MVP was @hoodnewzmedia, who put on their serious business pants for a new gameplay pitch: “We want this? When are we gonna have this added to ships so we can rain terror on foes?” They included a clip of what looked like a ship engulfed in flames, which sounds amazing. Imagine the chaos of a full naval battle with fire arrows setting everything aflame, crews scrambling to quell the fires, and attempting to sink each other. Rare, please take notes.

@Steveuk2030 is outside of the joke though: “Can you deliver a working game?” Ouch! A little too harsh. But hey, that’s the internet for you.

Then, players who actually took the question seriously. @Fiskfjellifejse stated something along the lines of: “Can you play the burning blade as a solo? No you can’t.” Okay buddy, we’re just trying to start a fire here, not rewrite the mechanics of the game.

Let’s not forget that random banana debate: @ArtSkunkVRC posted a clip of someone committing “crimes against bananas” with the caption, “Someone send the maker of this video to the pirate king.” Meanwhile, @ItemsENABLED wants to fry bananas, even if just for cosmetic purposes. Because why not?

This whole thread and conversation might be heartbreakingly real for anybody from the Sea of Thieves community. Whether or not you can actually light a campfire with the Burning Blade is a hot-debated question (some might even say they’ve tested it), however one thing that is uncontested is that, as simple as these questions might be, Rare knows how to keep their players entertained.

So, if you ever find yourself with no lantern on a deserted island, consider swinging the Burning Blade. Worst-case scenario: you might just burn down the whole outpost. Best-case: you gain some legendary status. Either way, it’s a win.

And if you still have some Twitch drops on hold… good luck with that. Maybe set something on fire in the meantime.
