SNK’s Samurai Shodown is heading to the PC via the Epic Games Store. The announcement was made in an Epic Games Store Spring 2020 video announcement, along with other new technical additions coming to the storefront.
Samurai Shodown, the newest installment in the series, is the first game to be released in 11 years. The new game is considered a prequel to the first game.
“Samurai Shodown has enjoyed worldwide success as a blade-wielding fighting game series since its first release in 1993. Over 10 years have passed since the last series installment, and it is now time for Samurai Shodown to return in a brand-new game featuring high-end visuals and gameplay! With its story set one year before the very first installment, warriors and combatants from various backgrounds and with their own goals are about to battle to fulfill their destinies!” states the official website.
This is the first game in the series to use the Unreal Engine 4. There are a total of 16 characters, which includes 13 who appeared in the previous series. So far, two seasons of DLC have been released, including past fan-favorite characters.
The Samurai Shodown reboot contains a large roster of characters. Each character has a unique weapon and skills they use in battle. Some characters have appeared in every past release of the series, while others appeared more recently, but have become fan favorites.
At launch, SNK did not include every available character. Additional characters are slowly being added to the game as paid DLC.
It appears that Samurai Shodown is currently exclusive to the Epic Games Store. There is no store listing on Steam for the 2019 release. Currently, the only edition in the series on Steam is Samurai Shodown V Special.
Samurai Shodown was previously released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch.
The Epic Games Store video also announced the other titles coming this Spring and beyond. They include Among Trees, Control – The Foundation DLC, Diabolical (Closed Beta), Dread Nautical, Industries of Titan, Saturnalia, Sludge Life, and Totally Reliable Delivery Service.
The digital game storefront also added Wishlists, so that users can easily keep track of games coming soon or that they hope will be on sale soon.
Samurai Shodown will come to the PC via the Epic Games Store this Spring.
