A hearty hello to the Overwatch 2 players out there. New Junk City and Suravasa will receive the spicy Midseason 17 treatment. Developers have dropped the Weekly Recall blog post about new Flashpoint map reworks, and reactions, to say the least, are at best mixed.
Ryan Smith, one of the devs for Overwatch, declared that the idea behind creating the maps was to keep the feeling of being “fun and competitive” with a good pace of action. Detractors, then, give their views. Some say they love Flashpoint because it feels like fast-paced chaos, while others see Reactivation as just a walking simulator, glorious though it may be.
MaverickHunter X basically trashed Flashpoint as boring and thought that losing one team fight basically meant control of the point was over. Harsh. On the other hand, AshieMeoww calls it their ‘favorite game type’ because of the competitive nature. See what I mean?
Then there’s the whole map voting debate, with Garbageman in tears asking for Atlas to be seen more while the rest are wondering where the hell Aaron Keller has gotten off to. Typical Overwatch community: never a dull moment.
And just another aside: Zunovsky would be cursing hero bans and would like them removed, letting perks solve their issues by themselves. Meanwhile, GuacMaster lays down some hard truths, saying that in Flashpoint it’s almost a walking sim with little chance to recover if you lose a fight.
Then of course, not all responses are negative. “Symmetra Updates” (shout out to all Symm mains) loves the new visual updates to New Junk City, while FortKnox stands ready to start fragging hardcore on those reworked maps. So it’s not entirely downhill from here, then.
The question, then, is will all these changes start addressing what players have considered to be the real issues with Flashpoint? Pacing, for sure, is being worked on from the dev standpoint, but will that really suffice? Only time will tell.
Some would say there is one thing that everyone agrees on: the Midseason 17 update will shake up the tiny little world of Overwatch 2. That, depending on whom you ask, might be a good or bad thing.
Now, so what’s the verdict? If you’re into chaos, Flashpoint will be your jam but for a more structured experience, maybe Push is your thing. Either way, the Overwatch team is not about to stop anytime soon and thank goodness for that!
I have to excuse myself for a moment. I am suddenly down on my knees praying that Atlas lands in my map rotation at long last.
