NIS America has announced the release of The Caligula Effect 2 in North America this Fall. The game will not only be launched digitally but a physical release with limited-edition goods was also announced.
The Caligula Effect 2 is the sequel to the first game but has a similar plot. A virtual doll named Regret has created the world of Redo, where people can be saved from their past regrets. When people enter the world of Redo, they are imprisoned within the simulation.
An idol named “X” breaks into Redo and restores one of the inhabitant’s memories, a high school student. They establish the “Go Home Club,” a small resistance group fighting to return home. Together, they will battle against Regret and her enforcers, the Obbligato Musicians.
The Caligula Effect 2 is written by Tadashi Satomi, who was the scenario, setting, and character writer of Persona and Persona 2: Innocent Sin and their PSP remakes.
The Caligula Effect was initially released by NIS America in March 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The series was so popular that an animated adaptation was released a few months after the Japanese release.
The Caligula Effect is an RPG with turn-based combat. The game is set within a VR program called “Mobius.” Those who use the game try to escape their real lives inside of a virtual high school for a mandatory three years.
After a while, the protagonist realizes this is a game and creates the “Go Home Club” to leave the game. However, the group is soon seen as traitors, and their escape back into the real world won’t be easy.
The Caligula Effect 2 Limited Edition is similar but will come with the base game in a case. The special edition is also packaged with a hardcover art book, “Regret and X Vocal Collection” 2-Disc Soundtrack, a digital download version of the soundtrack with three bonus limited edition exclusive tracks, plus a Tatefushi Academy School badge and student ID in a collector’s box.
The game will first be released in Japan on June 24. The English language result in North America will be released a few months after.
The Caligula Effect 2 will launch on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch this Fall.
