If you grew up in the 90’s, you probably remember the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. It was an iconic film about a family getting shrunk down thanks to their dad’s shrink-ray machine. That concept has shown up in many different iterations over the years, but it’s finally coming to the video game sector in Grounded. This game was announced last year by Obsidian Entertainment, and ever since then, it has garnered a lot of attention.

Who hasn’t wanted to shrink down to the size of an ant for a day? It’s every kid’s fantasy so long as there aren’t large predators looking to hunt you down. Well in Grounded, that might be a challenge you’ll have to overcome. Other than knowing that this game is a survival, action game, details on Grounded have remained pretty sparse.

That is until the game received an official page on Steam. It just happened and now there are a couple of details worth breaking down. For starters, it will be a single-player experience with co-op opportunities. That last bit of information is great to see.

It stands to reason that you would want to experience this game with a friend when trying to overcome the difficulties of being vertically challenged. It also makes sense that in order to get past certain sections in this game, you’ll need help from a friend. It may be a bit of platforming or keeping creatures at bay with collective attacks.

We also know some of the gameplay elements that you’ll get to experience. These include exploring, building, and surviving. It makes sense that being much smaller now means you’ll have to get creative with building structures to get from one area to the next. It would be great to see some sort of resource system that enables you to build custom weapons too. It seems you’ll definitely need them, whether it’s fending off against birds or going toe to toe with army ants.

Who knows what Grounded will throw at you, but it’s shaping up to be quite a fun and unique title. As it stands now, a release date is coming soon. It wouldn’t be surprising to see it get announced here in a couple of months or so. Obsidian Entertainment is a competent studio and it will be interesting to see what surprises they can incorporate to keep players on their toes. Hopefully, we find out shortly.
