This really is an electric treat for fans who await Ghost of Yotei from Sucker Punch; now the game has Yotei Six-a bloodthirsty group that perhaps jostles your controller with their very existence. You will hunt them down on the launch of the game on October 2. Pre-orders? Already live. Collector’s Edition? Oh yes, it actually is a thing.
So who, or what for that matter, are these Yotei Six? Of course, they have no names yet, but then again, if Sucker Punch track record with villains (hi, Khotun Khan) is anything to go by, it wouldn’t surprise if they were some seriously sick foes. The teaser image displays six shadowy figures that would probably have held grudges against joy itself. One’s brandishing a massive sword while the other looks like he has never smiled in his life, exhibiting that classic villain energy.
Pre-orders are open now for the Collector’s Edition. Man, is this thing packed with heat! We are talking physical copy of the game, obviously, steelbook case, a mondo detailed statue of the protagonist mid-battle, an art book, and a digital soundtrack. Basically, if you are one who likes his shelf to be a shrine to gaming, this is your time.
That would naturally have to be the release date: October 2, smack-dab in what is usually that time of the year for all the avalanches of fall games, which probably means Sucker Punch is pretty darned confident in Ghost of Yotei being able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the majors.
And honestly, who could hold that against them? After Ghost of Tsushima, the charm has been earned. The first was nothing short of an open-world masterpiece, giving the action-loving samurai aficionado almost everything possible, and if Yotei even comes anywhere near, we are all in for a great ride.
So what will be the biggest question- what gameplay will it bring? If it will be anything like the footfall in Tsushima, expect brutal swordplay with gorgeous landscapes and a plot that kicks up right into your feels. But since the Yotei Six seems to be the main targets this time around, it looks like we will be getting a little more structured hunt just like they gave us, maybe even some Nemesis-like mechanics where these guys adapt to our tactics themselves.
And then again, the setting itself. Ghost of Tsushima was all feudal Japan, but Yotei? That name really does hint toward something colder, more mountainous-sounding like Hokkaido. Picture snow-kissed settlements, frozen rivers to sprint across, and enemies who can play the environment against you. Sucker Punch knows how to breathe life into worlds, so this could multi-tier immersive.
For those who missed it, Ghost of Yotei was initially teased through a cinematic trailer earlier this year with the introduction of the latest hero-another lone warrior who has a vendetta and an equally very sharp blade. That feel was instantly too recognizable yet fresh enough to fire the hype train. But having revealed the Yotei Six, it seems like stakes have just gone up a notch.
Next, what’s in store? Probably more trailers, and maybe soon a deep dive into gameplay. For now, though, if you’ve bitten the bullet (and let’s face it, why wouldn’t you?), go and pre-order. October isn’t all that far away, and something tells us this will be a hot topic in conversations when it drops.
And hey, if these people are halfway scary, then it wouldn’t hurt practicing your parrying now. Just saying.
