As is Apex Legends tradition, a new character is added at the start of each season. This time around, for Season 8, the character is called a Fuse. Keen on explosives, a lover of 80’s rock, and a national icon for Australia in Respawn‘s Battle Royale, Fuse has some pretty interesting abilities.

Season 8 starts on February 2nd and will probably go live at a similar time as last season, at around 06:00 GMT.

You can check out the full character trailer below to see for yourself:

First up, a closer look at Fuse’s abilities. This is the first time Fuse has seen in action, and his abilities look like they could pretty strong, even if he doesn’t have great maneuverability, like Horizon.

The Passive ability allows Fuse to stack two grenades – just how the game used to be, between season 0 and season 3 – and comes with a grenadier arm launcher on Fuse’s robotic arm. This will let Fuse fire grenades further and with more accuracy.

Fuse’s tactical is a concussion frag grenade, which shoots out over a small area. This is potentially the first stun/flash ability in the game and might be extremely powerful, depending on how Respawn has decided to implement it. There isn’t much info in the trailer on the impact it has on the affected player.

Lastly, his Ultimate (which apparently has a cooldown of 2 minutes) launches an explosive in the air that then detonates to create a burning ring of fire. If timed well alongside a Horizon ultimate or one of the other AOE ultimates (Bang, Gibby) this could also be extremely powerful.

The trailer also shows off a few of Fuse’s potential finishers and plenty of his voice lines. It also seems like his music is going to have a heavy didgeridoo theme, which sounds pretty hype.

Season 8 starts February 2nd and Fuse isn’t the only new addition. The new weapon, the 30-30 heavy repeater, works a bit like a G7 Scout with more damage and less fire rate. King’s Canyon has also received some big changes, including improving the lighting to get rid of that reddish tinge.

Apex Legends is also celebrating its two year anniversary this February, so there’s likely to be an upcoming event with new cosmetics, challenges, and potentially an extra heirloom. Nothing has been confirmed yet.
