Okay, all you crazy Fortnite fans strap yourselves up because Epic is about to do something greater than great: May 29 will see players take control of a Star Destroyer’s turbolaser and rain down death and destruction from above. That’s right: no typos, just pure, unrelenting madness.
And here’s how it works: All matches will turn into the portal connecting the turbolaser directly to the control room of Star Destroyer. When inside, direct access to the turbolaser will be yours; basically a big cannon in outer space capable of frying your enemies from the sky. Just think: being the one who sits up there, sipping on a chug jug while vaporizing everyone below. An absolute power move.
Not to mention that epic find-the-port involving Star Destroyer, which was just floating around Fortnite’s world for very long, enticing players with that gigantic structure. The good part is after all this time Epic will give us the opportunity to interface with it in the most explosive way possible. And then, one portal spawns with every match, so there’s no way anyone is getting left out on this-the gates of turning into the finale transcendental orbital hero are completely open for all players.
And now we can talk about the changing landscapes. This is going to take the phrase “game changer” to a whole new level. Battle Royales are already psychotic; this is going to put the icing on the cake-enhance it even further by adding a player-controlled superweapon raining down unimaginable havoc from above. Squads will accordingly plan their strategies, most probably emphasizing that early portal control move to assert their claim. Or, you know, just huddle in some tight corners. Unless you don’t mind getting vaporized.
And you know what? It’s not even a gimmicky one-off. Epic has recently been ruling the roost with live events and map interactive changes, and this seems to be yet another stride towards making Fortnite feel like a wildfire living, breathing warzone. Remember the mechs when everybody went nuts? This could be crazier.
So put it down in your diary, expect the alarm signal, do whatever it takes-this one’s definitely going down on May 29. Whether you’re blasting from above or dodging death rays below, it’s sure to make things better.
