Just in: Squid Grounds! Responses have been… well, mellow would be putting it lightly. Official Fortnite account said it in a lone tweet, “Green light. Squid Grounds is OUT NOW!” No further explanation, it is only understandable that Epic Games would want to leave it to the imagination. Within minutes, the reply section was filled in half with hype and half with full-on anger.
First off: What is even Squid Grounds? From the replies, it may be a new map or game mode that is an eerie copy of the Squid Game craze. Players immediately started reporting problems, with one user named happyrouge stating it was “broken to all hell” after dying due to the glitch. To keep it in times of pain, RiggyOG then reported, “GOT 2ND PLACE TO NOTHING… I KILLED LAST TEAM AND THEN DIED TO STORM??? IT SAID THERE WAS 2 PLAYERS LEFT BUT IT WAS JUST ME… WTFFF” – that’s tough, my friend.
Almost empty player lobbies seem to be another huge concern. A handful of users commented on ghost town lobbies, with numbers of 36 to 60 being ridiculously low by Fortnite standards. AlfieDreamss kept it short and sweet: “36 players is crazy.” Gamertrap5000 pleaded, “Add bots it’s full of sweats” – so true.
And prosperous from one side are arguments: MrAppieGaming called it a “W collab,” while DEDPRZ replied with an advertisement for their casino map, commenting, “Green light at DEDPRZ Casino too 🎮 Time to play.” SBHashtronaut responded with, “I’ll pass. Couldn’t have picked a more boring collab” – ouch.
Not only are there glitches making the waves. superleaks questioned why they even got battle bus decals if nothing else (“why give me them if I can’t use them”). BloxDang talked about a very Switch-specific glitch where Sakura’s headband turned into a big chunky mess in the middle of a map transition. soulrock22 can’t even get into the game, as their redeeming gift card fails with customer support ignoring them—a classic.
On announcements, MeloKirstein has brought in the Attack on Titan agenda (day 123 of requesting Jean Kirstein skins; respect the grind). MikuFromFN demanded a synced emote with Original Audio that “we NEED this,” no fakey version.
So is Squid Grounds something worth your time? Depends on who you ask. ZataksterGG said, “I see the appeal but not for me,” which might be the most balanced take here. Now, with reports of players running into glitches and having empty lobbies and complete disorder, you may want to wait for a patch or two before jumping in. Meanwhile, DEDPRZ Casino is a much better place.
Fortnite continues to win by dropping content with zero explanation and then letting the community piece it together on its own amidst sheer chaos. Would it really survive the backlash? Most probably. It’s Fortnite: will complain and come back to play for 8 hours straight. Cycle continues.
