Death Stranding 2 is slowly evolving into something more than just a walking simulator and incredibly divisive among the players. What we see in the new video really gives rise to interesting combat mechanics that include some drop-kick generating varied opinions-both excited and less-enthused.
In another sense, the original Death Stranding was memed to death for being a walking simulator, but it seems that Kojima Productions is stuffing twice as much action in this all-new one. The NikTekOfficial tweet opened up a paradox of opinions, with some calling it “another boredom fest,” while others are thrilled to be dismantling chaos. Player PhanomHD lost it about the drop kick: “That drop kick is insane 😭.” In comparison, caldryth did not seem to agree: “no it’s not. it’s a boredom fest.”
Slow-motion combat; some found it cinematic, others, like yulcheon132602, called it “boring.” RandomShepard had a mixed view, saying “ranged combat looks fun, but melee combat looks ass, just like ME2.”
Thing is, Death Stranding has never been just about walking. You surely spent enough of your time carrying cargo through hazardous terrains, but it was the tension, the ambiance, and the outright and splendid strangeness throughout all that has made the experience so unforgettable. So, as for Death Stranding 2, it would seem as though Kojima is now putting a whole lot more focus on combat, perhaps to finally put to bed those walking simulator jokes.
Then, harsh truths from TechFreakOnline: “80% of the game, you are walking. THAT is FACT! Just like in the first part, nothing has changed.” GLegit99 agreed it had good combat and story but: “it’s boring” otherwise.
Then there are the ones already won over. No_Mad_Kid commented: “I’m enjoying more than the first game,” and realfpsprince just said: “fing awesome.” And that marks the real rift between opinions.
It’s interesting, this franchise is polarizing. Some players love the meditative, almost zen-like delivery of gameplay, while others want more action. Death Stranding 2 is seemingly all set to bridge that gap, but will it manage to?
One thing that is for sure, not even Kojima does something half-heartedly. So whether you love it or hate it, Death Stranding 2 is going to be a ride. And with combat looking this ridiculous, maybe some of the skeptics will be convinced after all. Or at least given something new to grumble about.
So yeah, watch this one. Like or not, it’s going to sell itself. And hey, that drop kick alone might be worth the price of admission. Maybe.
