According to a modder, fallout 4’s Commonwealth will now be a volcanic wasteland. The Fallout series is well-known for its intriguing and weird vaults, and the games are notable for their landscapes that were destroyed by a nuclear war, which left behind a barren world full of mutant animals and chaotic cultures. Players emerge from the comparatively secure confines of their underground homes to meet the Commonwealth’s ruins.

While the vanilla experience is plenty to pique fans’ interest, many exciting Fallout 4 mods are available that provide even more content, such as new species or an original plot created from scratch. In addition, individuals in the community will completely alter Fallout 4’s aesthetics, providing an alternative with a more distinctive appearance than what gamers are used to and may even make the game seem entirely different.

On Nexus Mods, at least, that is what user Delicious Vegetable did. ‘Vulkan – Landscape Retexture,’ a new mod for Fallout 4 that, as the name implies, changes the landscape’s textures, was just discovered by DSO Gaming. In this instance, it transforms the Commonwealth into a scorched wasteland, covered in blazing magma and ash, with plants “clinging to life.” The description reflects the aftermath of a catastrophic volcanic eruption just outside Boston, where the game is set.

In many aspects, “Vulkan” makes the entire world resemble Fallout 4’s Glowing Sea location, an area that players discover in the game’s main quest and which the developer purposefully left outside the map because it is so dangerous and uninhabitable.

The modder claims that players are encouraged to play a literal game of “the floor is lava.” The pictures on the Nexus Mods website perfectly capture how barren the Commonwealth has grown. Accordingly, if anyone who has played the vanilla game felt the city looked like a wasteland, this hack adds to that by several orders of magnitude.
