A new cryptic teaser for the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has just surfaced from FromSoftware, and the fans are going wild for that. The official Elden Ring Twitter account posted a picture of an armored man raising his shield against an endless void of darkness with some really poetic words stating, “In a world bereft of light, still he stands, shield aloft. An immutable heart of steel, holding fast against the Night’s endless maw.” Such a thing makes the lore hunters frantic.

The picture bears the guise of either concept art or in-game renderings, showing the knightly figure, possibly the Guardian, standing against that foreboding swirling darkness. The caption has already fired up everybody in speculation as every word in the caption is being considered in the discussion; some pointed out that the exact phrase “bereft of light” is used by Messmer the Impaler to describe the Tarnished in the DLC trailer while others were mulling over the word serpent, which has been a recurring theme in Elden Ring’s lore already.

Well, the comments are just a madhouse. Some fans were wholeheartedly overjoyed, ShadowSquiggsX exclaiming, “@ELDENRING cannot fking wait,” but perhaps some others are begging for solace: “@ELDENRING Please make bosses easier I still haven’t beat Mohg Lord of Blood thereby being unable to enter in the DLC😞.” Yeah, good luck with that—talking about From Software.

Then another group is yellin’ for more reveals. DaiseyDespair has had enough with the Guardian focus, tweeting, “@ELDENRING Ok where is Revenant…… 🥱 we’ve seen Guardian at least a million times now 🙄… show us our queen and the only one who matters REVENANT!” Others are already scrambling to figure out how to fit this DLC in with others, Mania commenting, “@ELDENRING Dunno how I’m gonna balance this and the Switch 2 but I’ll figure it out lol.”

Theories are flinging around. Kornel made a connection from that “bereft of light” line to Messmer’s dialogue while others remain vehemently convinced that this spells out a major lore reveal on the serpent. Then there is Kallebe, who tweeted in Portuguese meaning: “This bird is still gonna save a lot of people,” which — frankly, God knows what that means, but it sure sounds cool.

Pre-orders for the DLC are already live, and judging from the response to this teaser, Shadow of the Erdtree will undoubtedly be another harshly beautiful, confoundingly amazing spectacle. Whether you play for lore, for challenge, or just to see what new kind of nightmare FromSoftware is throwing at us, one thing’s for sure: June 21 can’t come soon enough.

Now, if you are still stuck on Mohg, then maybe now is time to git gud. Or finally wait for a cheese strat that really matters to be discovered. In either case, the Night’s endless maw awaits.
