Alright, Almighty God—are you insane here? See for yourself what From Software really released in the trailer. The Elden Ring Nightreign overview trailer is making quite an impact on fans everywhere.
The shades have been cast over Limveld; the Nightlord is truly a large exercise of his evilness. Until now, the DLC seems to be just what one thing Soulsborne addicts have been starving for. And that trailer perfectly fits horror in the best way possible.
So, what’s going on with Nightreign? If you thought the main game was punishing, hold your breath. The trailer indicates a world submerged by shadows; mutant beasts that could keep horror-comics artists awake at night; and, to top it all off, the Nightlord himself: a mountain of a thing that’ll probably make Malenia look like a tutorial boss. The vibes? Darker than a Mississippi river in a shantytown. The hype? Unbelievably so.
It isn’t just being piqued at the vibe by having a bucket of lore dumped on our heads. Limveld, it would appear, is some damned land stewed in eternal night, and guess who’s supposed to fix that. You, Tarnished. Because when has it been that anything is ever easy in Elden Ring? Nope; instead, they get a one-way ticket to their personal Hell, where everything wants to eat your face. Just the way FromSoftware like it.
And that Nightlord-what a nightmare. That guy has got presence. He’s hooded and ominous, probably muttering dark verses to himself while he waits to stomp some players into the mud. The glimpses shown in the trailer give a taste of what he can do, and let’s just say: Good luck with that. Expect attacks that look slow but hit fast, at least one AoE move, and a phase or two where the entire platform just becomes a death zone. You know the drill.
Combat looks as brutal as it always did, and most probably a pile of new weapons and updated spells will be added in, maybe with some new mechanic or two. The trailer shows off some seriously cool new gear: flails cloaked in shadow and armor that resembles hooks melted and hammered in some pit of the Abyss. Fashion souls fans should worship the gods here! That leaves the monsters. FromSoftware’s art crew went into full-on nightmare mode when designing those as creatures to haunt your dreams. Giant crow demons? You bet. Limbed skeletons? Of course.
So when will it be out? There is no defined release date, although with that trailer, it should be pretty much soon, right? Rumor has it that FromSoft will be pushing for a late 2024 release, but hey, they’re FromSoft-you’ll get it when they feel like it and we’ll all suffer waiting in silence.
For now, that teaser is more than good enough to keep the hype train rolling forward. Fans are already analyzing every frame, theorizing lore connections, and preemptively sobbing over what appears to be some horrible boss fights. Just like Shadow of the Erdtree, Nightreign will be yet another brilliant work of patience.
Watch the trailer. Watch it again. And maybe get some stress balls with that because, here comes the Nightlord. And God knows there’ll be none for him.
