FromSoftware’s Twitter unleashed a storm of excitement with Soulsborne fans clamoring everywhere. “A restless soul cannot be soothed by anything less than vengeance”, cryptically posted and subsequently declared to its ardent fans; big reveal – ELDEN RING #NIGHTREIGN in 30 days.

We are thankful for the cryptic Twitter post rather than long trailers and teasers-a moody nighttime setting (not unlike something that would proceed from one’s nightmare after fighting Malenia 50 times) was put in good use for a post. Accompanying an image of what appears to be a dark landscape-therefore probably some new area with eerie glowing runes scattered all about. Classic FromSoft: ominous, vague, and dripping with lore implications.

So what about Night Reign? That’s a million runes question. Alone, that name would sound like the night of betrayal, perhaps packed with a vampire twist. This DLC truly can go either way, considering Elden’s penchant for cosmic horror and sad king lore. Some speculate it might tie into Miquella’s cursed fate, while others argue for a new faction-the cult of shadows worshiping the stars, or something equally sinister.

And about that tagline: “Vengeance.” It’s more than just a word in Souls-songs. It’s a promise of agony. Remember how we hunted down demigods for Great Runes back in the original? For all we know, Night Reign could see us hunting for Runes while questioning the motives of some of our past sins or fallen allies. Maybe payback on that one NPC who really, truly deserves it? (We’re looking at you, Patches).

Then it just gets insane. That thirty-day wait puts the release squarely after summer, so FromSoft has a perfect excuse-or a vicious branding-right before gaming season II. Either way, hype train leaving the depot, and it is gathering speed.

There have been no leaks about the price or the absolute contents yet. But, as Shadow of the Erdtree showed us, whenever FromSoft mentions expansion, it really means an expansion. Night Reign would involve a myriad of bosses and weapons and perhaps an area that would make Caelid seem like a fabulous vacation.

And do not get us started on that. Thanks to the community’s reactions, Twitter has become a hub for memes, theories, and the classic “I am not ready.” Some seem to be racing to finish their playthroughs, and others are dusting off old builds in readiness for the impending shimmering torture.

So do mark your calendars, Tarnished! Night Reign is set for 30 days later, and we can probably take that one to the bank, given FromSoft’s history. If you will excuse me, I’ve got some practice dodging rolling to do. Just in case.
