In the latest batch of cryptic tweets from FromSoftware pertaining to the upcoming Elden Ring expansion titled Night Reign, fans seem to have nearly gone insane over the dark, somber aura related to it. “A wall of flesh and steel, holding steadfast against a dark storm.
Strike back with furious might, carving a path through billowing shadows,” reads a tweet depicting scenes of violent mechanized warfare. This continues the witty vein of somehow discouraging violence in a studio actually renowned for brutal games like Bloodborne and Sekiro.
No one’s replying, but don’t you think Soulsborne fandom is poring over every single word of the description? It was accompanied by a link for pre-order, meaning Night Reign is already open for pre-orders. If ever there was a surprise, it is this, since the Elden Ring DLC has been counted amongst the most-expected releases since, in a way, the base game.
So what’s the Night Reign setup? I mean, looking at the description, it may be an expansion that revels in the grim atmosphere that Elden Ring is quite famous for. A wall of flesh and steel could easily point to new, monstrous enemies or even perhaps a giant boss whose very being is going to make Malenia look like a mere warm-up.
And carving a path through billowing shadows could mean that some more themes from the Lovecraftian-nightmare realms of the game could be in greater play.
The lack of feedback, though, is just all kinds of crazy. In general, the theorycrafting, memes, and cries for a release date flood FromSoftware’s every tweet within seconds. The entire fandom is pre-ordering and can say nothing? Or was that description a heavy weight on the hearts of the fandom? Nevertheless, the stillness itself is disturbing in a way that suits the expansion.
Pre-orders are now alive, so if you were one of those pleading with the developers for more anguish, now’s your time. Just don yourself first, for Night Reign is going to hurt, a lot, if the main game is anything to judge by.
And if you are still having huge issues with Malenia or Radahn, then consider this DLC your carrot for getting good. Or your cement shoes. Either way, it’s going to be quite the ride.
Get out there, sharpen some knives, lure some enemies into Flask charges, and find another hundred hours of fun torturing yourself in FromSoftware’s beautiful sandbox-or die. A lot.
TL; DR-The Elden Ring Night Reign is nigh, and is going to be cruel. Pre-orders start tonight. Good luck, Tarnished. You’re going to need it.
