Doom: The Dark Ages has offered fans yet one more quick peek at the Doom Slayer’s insanely weird arsenal, and fans have basically been melting in sympathetic despair. PlayStation put out a trailer showing the most brutal weaponry in the game, asking: “From where does the Doom Slayer get these lovely toys?” The reply section erupted in chaos.

Of course, they look sick!-chainsaws, plasma rifles-a full-on demon slaughtering buffet, so to speak. But some players are not just excited for the guns; they’re fuming over the hardware one needs to run them. One user tagged BethesdaIsTerribleLOL felt obliged to call out PlayStation: “It is disrespectful to force us to get GPUs we can’t even afford to run this game. Let us turn off ray tracing.” Ouf, very much on point. That’s real talk. Not everybody is out there carrying a PS5 Pro or an elite PC, and said folks are freaking just at the mention that ray tracing is mandatory.

Now, oh, that sets off another whole debate on digital versus physical-because, of course, there just had to be an argument somewhere. Darealbandicoot proceeded with a shipping rant about how digital games have the player at the mercy of Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. “Digital on console you are at the mercy of these companies… These games can be yanked from you at any time,” they contended. Oblivian countered, “I don’t know anyone that uses a disk drive anymore.” Classic console wars-warmongering with salt, if you please.

And, of course, the price argument: Wolf of Thor released a nuclear take: “The pricetag for this game made me long for the high seas again… At least 16 years since I’ve visited the high seas. I can’t wait to return.” Yikes. That’s a way to say $70 is too much. On the flip side, Goetia King of Demon Gods just wants Switch 2 to come out so he can start thinking about new games.

Oh, and we must not exclude the random political jibe from BLOODLINES: “So Biden wasn’t president for the last 4 years?” because… sure, why not? Twitter gonna Twitter.

Doom: The Dark Ages, at the end of the day, seems to be packing with the classic chaotic energy of its predecessors-with gameplay and fan reactions alike. Whether you are excited about the guns or angry about the specs or just here for some drama, one thing is for sure: The comeback of the Doom Slayer won’t be without a noise or two. So, who is ready to rip and tear? (After saving up for that GPU, of course.)
