A definite milestone for any other game would be now having a history of 16 years since May 2009. To mark the occasion, the developers considered doing something special: A time capsule with memories, relics, and digital goodies to tell the story about the journey of the game.
The official Minecraft Twitter account had given a link to go check out the capsule; of course, comments poured forth with celebrations, memories, and demands for discounts and mods.
But really, what is inside this time capsule? The tweet does not say, but if we take Minecraft’s history into account, it should be a bit of everything: perhaps early textures, early concept art, and maybe even some original code snippets from back in the big bang. The kind of stuff that would get old-timers to scream, “Oh man, remember when creepers didn’t even exist?”
The comments ranged from wholesome to chaotic. Some wished Minecraft a happy 16th birthday in advance (@ZelTheTiger; a little early there!). Others went on the nostalgia trip, stating how they started at 14 with Minecraft and now are 23 (@LittleDuck0022)– proof about how Minecraft has been present in so many lives.
Then came the… interesting repeats, one in which @psn56458 wants to know when the infamous Jenny mod hits the Bedrock Marketplace (uh… probably never, buddy). Another, @yeet_dog12, begged for a discount, because apparently fifteen years is still not enough time to save for a copy.
Then started the best random debates ever. One thread descended into a riotous debate whether Bedrock Edition’s textures are shinier than Java’s (spoiler: they are). Then @gork called a character evil, before mentioning that toasters, too, are evil, but well, at least good at making toast. Quite the classic character, really.
Of course, no Minecraft anniversary would be complete without a renewed call for more dungeons (@rusebalb, we saw you). And, some are still bitter about the missing exclusive capes (@Lotherast, your pain is valid).
The top thing? So many people claiming Minecraft as their childhood. @slowgame5208 put it best: “HBD my childhood.” Because that is what Minecraft means to so many: not just a game but an entire chapter of their lives.
And so here is to fifteen years of dirt houses, blown-up builds, and infinite creativity. Maybe, another 16 years from now, would be the time to open up this time capsule and have few laughs together about how backward 2025 Minecraft was.
Meanwhile, have a look at the time capsule through the link cracked opened from the Minecraft tweet. Just do not hold your breath for the Jenny mod.
