With everyone from Bungie being excited about this fresh update, Destiny 2 players find themselves wrapped up in the Rite of the Nine event intertwined with the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. Alas! Some have been criticizing inappropriate things about the timing of drops, the loot, and if the event was worth the whole grind.

The gist: The Nine call Guardians to ascend the Spire of the Watcher, rewarding those who finish within the Rite of the Nine deadline with some extra currency and weapon drops. Nice, eh? The Destiny community had other ideas.

Some opinions among the players were coming with weeks behind timing. One player @Pagan_TTV said outright, “It’s a week behind haha.” And yeah, they weren’t just saying that for the sake of it: from the supposed schedule of Bungie’s “This Week in Destiny” (TWID), Spire was due last week, but Ghosts of the Deep inched in for that slot instead.

Now, about the loot: @HLRaiveres didn’t seem happy at all about the drop rate, saying, “20 runs, only 2 shinys, that’s a cringe drop rate,” whereas @AShiroN3K0 stepped in to say, “They can give me some better rolls on the weapons first then.” Which is a no-brainer: middle-of-the-road kind of loot after hours of grinding just kills the purpose of this grind platform.

The real climax, however, emerges from those players gloating that there’s no point to the entire event with the sudden advent of Edge of Fate. The doomsayers’ anthem: @SirCosta11 tweeted, “No reason to play. All old weapons and armor will be obsolete when fate launch!!” and, along with several others, @dj_siem agreed: “Yes, don’t gonna grind for weapons that are useless.”

Still, a couple of alternative views are slightly more charitable. “@MrRoflWaffles had a blast, saying ‘Oh sick perfect timing for my blind spire run this week let’s gooooooo,'” and @NightsDarkus dubbed it “a fun one” – meaning at least a few Guardians are having a good time doing it.

Oddly wholesome-themed follow-up comes again. @KC_4191 and @Marv2030 went on to speculate about a Destiny 2 Championship belt cosmetic which… honestly? That would be fire. Imagine flexing around the Tower with a championship title around your Guardian’s waist – Bungie has to make this happen.

Oh, and of course, how could the cats possibly be left out? Someone simply had to ask, “@DestinyTheGame Do the nine approve cat?”—with a picture of a judging feline. Priorities, people!

Now the final line: Spire of the Watcher is live, loot is meh, and while the community’s split about grinding or not, hey, if you love dungeons and don’t mind RNG, this is your time to climb the spire and see what the Nine can offer.

Um, though, don’t hold your breath for a god roll on your first go. Or your twentieth.
