The most recent installment in Destiny 2, The Edge of Fate, was released by Bungie, and reactions have been very mixed and mostly devoid of. This expansion will either gain the last acclaim or the acme of scorn, for it brings a new peak: an enclave named Kepler, set for July 15, 2025, with weird Dark Matter abilities. Some people are thrilled, and the others just aren’t.

Deeper impressions of Kepler-The Lost Enclave Floating Out of Time-were really set forth in the trailer, such a beautiful concept. These things are Dark Matter powers? They have to be some of the craziest powers there are. Players seem divided, however: is it just more Destiny? While others are saying straight up that this is the first time in 10 years that they will not pre-order.

One player, @MioTheMexican, stated: “For the first time in 10 years I will not be pre-ordering.” The player was not alone to express such sentiments. @dj_siem foresaw concerning possibilities. “Redirecting resources to Marathon (Bungie’s forthcoming extraction shooter) could kill Destiny development.” That one is sad: “Instead of giving love to this community, I’m afraid this release will go down as one of the least exciting,” they tweeted soon after.

Then comes the main argument: Is this expansion even worth its asking price? @txslickman calls it a “continuation of a dead husk of a game,” to which @ConcentricArc replied: “It’s not that deep. It’s just more Destiny. You either like it or you don’t.” And sure, that’s a reasonable argument to make-but with players slapping down $100 for expansions, their expectations certainly have to go beyond “more of the same.”

Speaking of which, about those crazy new powers given to Kepler? @iiiBlueApple brought up a valid question: “What happens when we explore everything in a few weeks and now all these new abilities are useless?” Such concerns are valid indeed: in the past, Destiny has struggled with these God-mode instances tending to die off once you leave a particular zone.

While we’re at it, let’s throw in our complaints over the lack of a new enemy faction. @razor_regiment summarizes it perfectly with some sleep emojis: “Yet still, no new enemy factions. 🥱😴” Just–Bungie, please, something to shoot.

But not all remain pessimistic. A few players still stand tall. @ConcentricArc-wielding a sword against the multitude out to condemn the game-earnedestly says, “nah, it’ll be fine. See you July 15th.” And honestly, that’s the mindset we need.

Come down to the dregs, and Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is coming to be… Well, Destiny. Which in a way is good or bad, depending on whom you ask. Some want to rush in, and some hate to admit it but think it’s lost its magic. If nothing else, July 15 would be one hell of a day for the community.

Are you backing or is this going to be the end of the road for your Guardian? Well, time will tell. But one thing is sure; Bungie has a lot of proving to do.
