Two weeks away from release and the new Destiny 2 expansion, The Edge of Fate, has been making at least a little noise in the community. On Bungie’s official Twitter, garnering in a flurry of reactions from die-hard hype to refund-forcing. Emotionally, what a giant mess.
In contrast, there are the very hyped ones. ALL CAPS HYPED. 90′ GAMER VETERAN in all caps literally replied, “ABSOLUTELY SO HYPED!!! 𫥔 while another said, “Personally I am very excited! Can’t wait for the DLC to come out!” Oh, some love must be floating around. But I don’t think that’s the entire viewpoint.
At the other extreme, a bunch of players are here just casting glare vibes. CrimsonPomp dangerously says, “First time I ever refunded an expansion,” to which RealHermonJames replied, “First time I haven’t preordered an expansion.” Aaaand ZazhuuGaming chimed in, “Lmao na, miss me with that,” with a vibe? Well, either skeptical or very pissed are a good chunk of the loyalists of Destiny.
And the reasons? Oh, where to start. On systems, Stephe reports common complaints: new gear system nobody will like-freaking exotics dropping at mid/low tiers is just not good enough. PlainWhiteBread is not feeling it yet, stating that a little more than just a campaign is needed to really make you want to lay down $80. The complaints then go on about match-making-With Aidan AKA Brady 2.0 going off and saying, “No you’re match making especially in comp makes this game miserable to play I’m done.” Ouch.
But the optimists do exist. Derek Dumbeck has admitted to being “a real mixed bag,” switching between hype and refund thoughts. AD2P_Twitch wants The Edge of Fate to “revive my love for the game again.” That sounds like cautious optimism!
There are also those wildcards like saucelover32 just wanting Immolation Fists back from Destiny 1. Priorities. Angiecat requiem throws out a desperate plea: “DONT KILL MY PRETTY GAMBIT PLEASE.” Because yeah, Gambit is still a thing somehow.
The marketing has been hammered too. Mareks_23_ chimed in: “The marketing hasnt been great for this.” And judging by the many waverers, it is evident that Bungie has some serious convincing left to do in the remaining two weeks.
So what do we take from this? The Edge of Fate is polarizing. Some can hardly wait; others are already out; and a chunk is stuck at “wait and see.” Will it be a blast or a wash? Well, I suppose fourteen days ought to tell us. But one thing’s for sure, not even Destiny 2 can keep a community this interesting.
