Truly, any news regarding Prismatic subclass tuning would be a bomb dropped on the Destiny 2 community, and the community would tell you it is not in the best spirits. These devs announce it upon Release 9.0.0, Fragment slots will be removed for many Aspects on all three classes, and to say the Guardians took this very well would be somewhat an understatement. Some Guardians claim a build of theirs will be gutted.
According to Bungie, Prismatic subclasses have been “a bit hot since release” (there goes their famous understatement), with some builds basically trivializing content with their insane damage output and survivability. Instead of buffing everything up to Prismatic power level (and here comes the power creep), the nerf bat has been coming down on what really is most fun for its players. Classic Bungie somehow, don’t you think?
The rage-causing changes are as follows:
Titans got a small reprieve in one way with Consecration and Knockout retaining 2 slots, rather than dropping to 1. For Hunters, Ascension and Winter’s Shroud take a slide from 3 to 2 slots while Warlocks are having the same treatment for Hellion and Bleak Watcher. After community backlash, some Aspects such as Stylish Executioner and Feed the Void remained unscathed.
The replies to Bungie’s tweet are the true story. It’s a pissed off lot. Another Guardian, @strikez00r, said bitterly: “Nerf titans hard, i dare you… is so fun to see a titan jump and punch the ground and kill ALL THE MONSTER in hes range.” @_N3_chemist could not have put the entire situation more succinctly: “Yall are using the good stuff too much and not the mediocre stuff, so we are nerfing the good stuff.”
Reasonable points peppered the discussion during the outcry. Several people pointed out Ascension was still getting nerfed while being bugged (@lexanderOT: “At least fix the aspect first”). Others called into question the entire philosophy (@danepark0: “Why is it always nerffs before buffs with you?”). And, no, we cannot forget an all-time classic Destiny community complaint (@TheBocop): “The game needs less refining, it needs content.”
On the other hand, some players came to its defense. @CommandantLuna suggested that different modes could be the solution for power creep: “Someone wants a challenge? Let them add modifiers and get better loot.” @Christonic18 answered that Prismatic should be “Jack of all trades, but master of none” – honestly, not such a bad idea after a little more thinking.
Now, here is the real kicker. This is just to get the first wave of changes out of the way. The general tuning pass, which has buffs alongside the nerfs, is slated for a later date. But let’s get real: Destiny players have been trust-starved for years after bearing witness to their favorite builds being Thanos-snapped into oblivion.
One thing in bubbly theorizing is beginning to blossom: Adventurescast Edge of Fate will be Stirring the Meta, whether we like it or not. Whether those changes actually will help or just irritate the players is a question left to be answered for now. But hey! On the other hand, that is something to have a barbecue over in the Tower.
