The announcement for the Death Stranding 2: On-the-Beach Limited Edition DualSense Controller just popped, and well… the internet has all sorts of opinions. Pre-orders for this beauty started today and some are not rushing to throw their money at it. Some are loving it, while others have been saying that it is just a black controller with stickers. That hurt a bit.
Secondly, the looks and the texture. Black finish with orange and white decals that kind of scream Death Stranding-like peaceful-crumbs into the untrained eye. And quite frankly, some fans such as @KCmunchen also went on to say that this one is nothing compared to the PS4 Death Stranding controller, which, in the opinion of these devotees, might have a point. There was some kind of translucent orange feel that made it distinct. This is just… plain. Perhaps, a little too plain. @Silv3rJS described it as “3 jpegs on a black controller,” and you will have a hard time thinking anything else about it after that.
Then comes the function-related complaints. @AziliaTheGreat ‘predicted’ stick drift in four months. @laithIshaya then went off in a tirade accusing PlayStation of using old-gen stick technology so that people would have to buy replacements anyway. Harsh, but who’s going to say it’s not at least a little bit justified given the DualSense track record? Meanwhile, @RustyCougarMama and @Vistrix were just crushed that there was no Edge-version DualSense. C’mon Sony, throw us a bone here.
In any case, some people were not hating. @SearchtoPlay called it “really amazing,” while @sebastian06237 said that a pay raise should be in order for the designers. @MagixTh3 was simply hyped, claiming to have already placed their order: “see y’all on the beach!” So, love it or hate it, some folks are definitely copping this thing.
And then came the… interesting comparisons. @MaxDash9 dropped a side-by-side photo of the Death Stranding 2 controller against a plain black one with the caption “Spot the difference?” Spoiler: It’s not easy. @Tahir34567121 just called it “black with two orange stickers,” while @uncle_vaughn straightforwardly stated that these customs are “poop.” On the flip side, @KnightedXavi felt it looked more like a Half-Life controller. Which, honestly? Now that they mention it…
And, of course, there was the chaos. @chispiron out of nowhere shouted, “The Canary Islands exist!!!” (Okay???) Meanwhile, @Yann12C from France started that rant about how PlayStation keeps disappointing him. Priorities, right?
At the end of the day, whether they are into the design or not, the fact is that PlayStation surely does a great job at generating all that chatter, whether half of it is insulting them or not. The Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition DualSense is now available for pre-order if you’re into subtle decals and maybe a little stick drift; today shall be your lucky day! For everyone else? Well, better wait for the next drop. Or just keep it default.
