Today came with one huge announcement for fans of Diablo IV: In this PTR livestream, players get to witness the first glimpse of what is coming next. The hype is justified, and so is the salt.
A short fiery post from the official Diablotwitter teased the stream: “Witness the future of Diablo IV unfold tomorrow🔥.” On the 22nd of May, starting at 11 AM, Pacific Time, new content, new mechanics, and maybe even some early-access dirt will be laid bare before the eyes of many. Going along with the tweet was a link to find out more, but the consensus among the fans is split between hype and frustration.
Some people are just fed up with it. Running through the burnout zone, one comment from Valkorion (@DrimacusOnline) reads, “i couldn’t make it to t3 this season… grinded pass items and uninstalled.” Ouch. Not waiting for expansions were a group like Krom (@Mornmagor) that said “Biggest disappointment ever.” Paladin/Templar-class style is loud with Krom saying, “MAYBE we’ll see then.”
Then, on the monetization side, Goober (@goober3888) wasn’t holding back: “witness blunder upon blunders as developers…still think everyone LOVES micro transactions.” And Wallace (@dallas4psn) outright said he’s going to be done with the store until it ceases to exist — “so guess that’s never.”
But it isn’t everyone being pessimistic. Damarus (@itzDamarus) had a ton of suggestions right off the bat—better unique items, less RNG masterworking, and scalable boss difficulty. Meanwhile, Ranfarel (@DavidPliskin08) whined about 400 mats blasting through with no mythic drops.
Then the complaints brigade continues for the design of bosses; it’s such a sore spot. Black Star ASMR (@BlackStarASMR) said “failed design” of a handful of bosses, citing invulnerability phases. Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred, and Beast in the Ice all got slammed.
But there is some hope left out there. Andrige (@Andrige3) is curious about new mechanics asking, “What borrowed power mechanic do you think we’ll get?” And despite all these criticisms, the fact that people are still talking means they care—well, or it’s just tough love.
So what will actually emerge in PTR? Well, nobody is 100% sure, but leaks and datamines talk about new endgame systems, class tweaks, and a few surprises. And would it also be enough to win some of the skeptic audience back? That is an entirely different matter.
One thing for sure: The Diablo IV community is passionate and loud—the type that does not fancy being picky. If tomorrow’s stream doesn’t raise the bar, the backlash will be doubled.
So, tune in, keep some expectations down-the-line, and maybe-Blizzard will pour one out for the doubters or at least give another thing to whine about.
