All right, hold onto your hats now, choombas; production on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is officially underway: two. CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger dropped quite the bombshell on the Internet, which is already divided into hype train and salt mine.
First things first: what is even Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? For anyone who somehow missed out on season one (how??), an anime spin-off of the Cyberpunk 2077 world has been set into motion. The game had a slightly rocky launch. However, the anime was a full-blown hit: gritty animation, killer soundtrack, and a plot that very emotionally wrecked every one of us in all the right ways.
The question everybody’s asking now is what Season 2 can or will be about. With such a strong, definite, and brutal ending to Season 1, a direct continuation seems unlikely. However, from some of the announcement-tweet responses, maybe it’ll be an anthology series – new characters, new stories, old Night City chaos. @TolArt2013 clarified a bit: “Its stand alone, completely new characters.” Which is honestly smart because Cyberpunk is huge, and mercs, hackers, and corporate rats are never short of things to do.
On the other hand, murmurs from a subset of voices appear a bit dimmer. @PiscesFueda pretty much condemns the entire proceeding: “We dont want more cyberpunk. Story is trash. World is trash. This is for weebos and naruto fans.” Could get a little harsh, but hey, not everyone is going to vibe with it. Meanwhile, @DislexicPotato declared the show “insanely overrated” and then basically @Ridley2016x “First one sucked, don’t need another.”
Well! Out here, the hypesters showed up. @KRATOJIRO said it best: “Let’s fkn gooo,” while @PyThorTV called the first season “Amazing anime! waiting for it!” “I saw the announcement and thought ‘what no you can’t make a second season of that, it was a great closed story’ but now seeing this they got me back again this goes hard,” confessed @PablloOswalld.
We cannot have a Cyberpunk-themed conversation without some jokes on the original game. @CR0302CR laments the bug problem (of course): “Just make sure to keep it under wraps until it’s done this time 😂😂 Believe us when we say, we would rather wait an extra 6 months to have a bug free experience.” @Pengun16 reminisced, “Ah yes, I too like a bug-free anime.”
Now onwards to the trauma brigade! @Jivesh1995 calls it “Trauma part 2 🫡,” and then there’s @RadillaAle35087 almost panicking, “NOO!!! I don’t want to relive it. So much trauma.” Exactly. That ending stung really hard.
When? None yet; probably going to take some time like season one. Animation takes time, especially being done highly through detail. And if the quality would turn out cheap, then it wouldn’t be worth my entire life anyway (cough Cyberpunk 2077 cough).
If you haven’t, then wait while watching season one; if you have, uh, well, it’s time to start preparing your mind for whatever fresh hell season two is going to unleash.
