Cyberpunk 2077 is creating a stir. Still, the other question is, what does the vibe feel like on the Nintendo Switch 2? CD Projekt Red dropped their bombshell tweet on motion controls for the game, and the player communities went crazy. The tweet showed an animation dripping with swag on how the Joy-Con controllers would work, promising that motion controls would be so immersive one could attack, dodge, heal, and do much more simply by moving their hands. Wow! And it looks just as cool as it sounds.
The reaction? Absolute pandemonium! While many of them were excited, many demanded more features, and many were just there to make memes. One player, SwampedGamer, confessed to having never liked motion controls and is now wholeheartedly converted. “Enjoying playing with Joy-Cons and motion controls. Your team absolutely nailed this version of the game,” they tweeted. Another player tagged as @robvegas spun a crazy tale of standing up mid-game for a moment, and suddenly Joy-Con aiming just felt natural for him. “It seamlessly integrates and is incredibly natural,” he said. High praise indeed for a feature that could have gone really bad!
Demands were being thrown along with praise. Bvana_Blanda demanded gyro aim for PS5, sbso25 pleaded for a VR mode, and DChaoticwaters cursedly requested a third-person view for each one while KaizdV said that they would just play it “seven times instead of eight” if no update comes fast from them. Harsh.
One way or another, with these motion controls coming along, the Switch 2 version will, in my mind, be the icing on the cake. For a game that has certainly had highs and lows, going bold. You said the launch was rough, didn’t you? But with Phantom Liberty out and this fresh gameplay change in Switch 2 edition, it really feels like CDPR has held true to the initial promise. The players have just started to realize it.
That said, there are still some skeptics around. @Chelseapaul23 called out the devs for all their efforts into the Switch 2 version while avoiding doing much for the PS5 Pro. “All this effort for Nintendo but still can’t make a simpler PS5 Pro update,” they tweeted. Ouch. Meanwhile, @Lainbaurore had a pretty relevant take: “I’d like to use my juiced-up PC rather than the Switch 2 to play the game.” Fair enough.
Now, for the memes. Couldn’t go without memes! @chrisyatesdev joked, “We got Cyberpunk Wii edition before GTA6,” with @Rizanul_Fikri chipping in, “We got new Red Steel before GTAVI.” This wait for GTA6 is seriously never-ending.
No way! So, what really is next? Well, CDPR hasn’t gone further than this single tweet with announcements and the rumor mill is in full swing. @RawGamerRants straight-up asked if this was a hint at PCVR support, while @DesolateRunning pleaded for futuristic compound bows. And then there was @Unyimusic just asking for Update 2.3 info. So it goes.
Whatever this thing is called, I know one thing-a Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a lot of attention. Might these motion controls, possibility of portability, or just the sheer weirdness of playing Night City on Nintendo’s clunky hardware be the salvation answer that game has sought for so very long? Meanwhile, time please-around those compound bows.
