Yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will feature the beloved Zombies mode that has become a series staple. The most exciting part is that, for the first time in the series history, the mode will be cross-platform. This includes the new two-player cooperative experience Zombies Onslaught, which will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 for the first year.

Yes, you read that correctly! Zombies Onslaught will be a multiplayer, cross-platform experience that won’t be available on other platforms until November 2021. Fittingly, that makes as much sense as reanimated corpses walking the Earth. What are you going to do?

To be fair, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 are two separate platforms, so players will still be able to take advantage of cross-platform play. On the other hand, by the time Xbox and PC users can jump into the mix, there will likely be another Call of Duty title hitting the shelves, so PlayStation users really ran away with this one.

Zombies Onslaught features two players, as opposed to the traditional four, as they fight the unending armies of the dead while stuck inside of a large Dark Aether Orb. Killing zombies powers the orb, which will periodically move around the map, forcing players to keep up and stay inside of its walls.

Essentially, all of the combat is confined to inside the orb. This means that even the weakest of enemies can present a threat due to proximity. A handful of shambling zombies at a distance is not a problem. If they’re right in the your face, however, that’s a different story. Players can expect bigger, stronger, and faster enemies as the round progresses.

There’s no endgame in Zombies Onslaught. The goal is to survive as long as possible and, hopefully, longer than the competition on the leaderboards. In addition, achieving different ranks will unlock content for Zombies and multiplayer modes, which will change with the game’s seasons.

Of course, the traditional four-player Zombies mode will still be there, and that mode will not be console exclusive. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is scheduled to hit shelves on November 13, but chances are anybody interested in playing it are well aware and already preordered long ago.

If you’re an Xbox or PC player, are you disappointed in being excluded? Or does Zombies Onslaught not sound like something you’re interested in? Sound off in the comments and let the frustration fly!
