Bungie gave a hot enough tease to the eager Destiny 2 fans with the arrival of the much-anticipated Sunshot ornament in 2025 for Bungie Day. The reactions thus far have been mixed, shall we say? The official tweet flaunting the new design of the fan-favorite hand cannon lit some questions among the gamers, such as “Why does the irrevocable Sunshot keep getting the spotlight while others just sit there with zero ornaments?.”
The unveiling tweet was short and sweet: “Did someone say Sunshot ornament?” and then linked to more information and a slick picture of the new cosmetic. But the thing is: doesn’t the Sunshot already have like what, eight ornaments? While other guns in Destiny 2 are out here looking basic as heck with no customization options. @SirMcVibes went on to accurately state, “Nobody said sunshot ornament it’s has to many while some guns don’t.” And honestly? They are right.
But some Guardians weren’t mad at all: @myrtogen shouted, “YYEEESSSSSSSSSSS I FUCJIGN LOVE THE SUNSHOOTTTYTT RAHHHH,” which is… a vibe. And @Mallux__ said “actually beautiful omg,” so hey, at least the design itself is being praised. The ornament is sleek with a little futuristic feel and glowing accents; definitely one of the cleaner Sunshot skins we have seen.
Here’s the kicker – @bennijin said it’s going for 700 Silver, which is our F2P Destiny premium cash. So that’s 7 US dollars pretty much. Commentators on @bennijin’s thread then started another debate. @JcalGG went more along with the charity idea: “Hey! This ornament is awesome! In the future you should put it as an incentive as opposed to an in game purchase! Help everyone raise even more money!” Honestly, I think that works.
And then the best? Several voices pointed out how literally NO ONE was clamoring for another Sunshot ornament. “Not a singular soul said this,” said @koitism, and @NaldoFigueroa chimed in, “Literally no one said this.” That’s… yeah. Bungie out here answering questions nobody asked.
But let’s be real: Players of Destiny will find something to complain about. @7RCCK put it well: “only the destiny community would complain about an ornament this nice because it ‘has too many already.'” And he has a point there. This gun is popular; it’s quite adored in both PvE and PvP; so, for Bungie to use it to rake in cosmetics is just business.
Meanwhile, some gamers have already prepped their demands for the next ornament. @Dino_nugget9 screamed for “ENEMIES BURST INTO HEARTS,” which–okay, that would be hilarious. And @GamerTwo18_ was like, “Where tommys matchbook ornament,” because, well, why not?
This, in the end, is just another skin for a gun that really does not need any more skins. But hey, it does look nice, and let’s be honest with each other- some of you are going to buy this anyway. The question really is… what guns are being ignored while Sunshot gets ornament number nine? Maybe, just maybe, next year we might be seeing that Tommy’s Matchbook skin. Or, y’know, actually pay attention to some of the more underappreciated weapons in Destiny’s immense arsenal.
What we DO know: Bungie has found the perfect recipe for sparking conversation, even if half the conversation is just hype, and the other half is “why tho.”
