Ubisoft has announced the winners for the Fourth Week of the Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Photo Mode Contest, and the reaction from the community is… well, let’s say, mixed-from-undaunting!-Official Twitter for AC declared the three winners under the theme of “Water” and congratulated the Instagram accounts @queentyris_official, @kali_girlgamer, and @photomode_raro for their stunning in-game shots. Well, while a few gamers still basked in the glory of the winning set, the announcement also served as an avenue for some to complain, ask for game codes, and demand for the long-lost Ezio Collection outfits-A classic AC community sally.
Dissecting the report; and let’s go: The winning photos, which were originally wrongly posted by Ubisoft and then corrected, show some next-level photography that makes one wonder if the photographers are secretly professional cinematographers. Inspired by the “Water” theme, the shots entail everything, from puddle reflections to underwater theatrics. Winners receive bragging rights and exposure to the official AC Discord where concurrent communities cast votes for monthly top-three finalists. Not bad for just clicking a few buttons in photo mode.
Just as things were getting interesting: Replies running the gamut from pure congratulations to downright earnest demands appeared on the tweet. Teams of players hijacked the famed announcement to make demands of Ubisoft to bring the E3 demo outfits to Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection-an old complaint, many years later, that still burns in the heat of their hearts: “It is years since the release and it has never be added,” chimed in one user named AzzamB_, and many other long-time fans echoed it. Others like grandmaguz wasted no time in making their feelings known about Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ protagonist Yasuke by stating outright, “pls give option to change yasuke to someone is native. i dont want to play black samurai.” Yikes.
Then the nonsense took over. The replies were flooded with dozens of players making jokes about their failures in photo mode. “‘Meanwhile, my photos look like a blurry Bigfoot sighting,’ said maddsss_x, while EbukaSobah vowed to ‘drown my jealousy in a glass of water.'” #PublicAI became one of the top trending hashtags among replies, with gamers humorously comparing their mediocre screenshots to the masterpieces of the winners. Then, mid-way in that, the official AC account had to backtrack, tweeting apologies for mistakenly posting the wrong winning photos before fixing themselves-which led to The905Guy “punishing” Ubisoft by demanding a free PS5 code. A dance of humor.
Some serious sarcastic genius even sneaked in over a couple of occasions. Milktub69 entered the scene for some gameplay tweaks by requesting Ubisoft to revert kunai pickup rates in Shadows, calling the present system “diabolical.” Then you’ve got AbrilAltz wondering if DMs are still a thing (??) and AGuyWithAPhD_ stewing by tweeting “1350 for this sh1t?” and then followed up with a clown emoji. Never change, AC fandom.
Apparently, the photo mode contests are doing something really well at this point. Player OlgaBaikova describes the contests as “fun” but begs Ubisoft to organize more of them. And honestly? She’s not wrong. These frivolous community events are good bait events squeezed in between the major updates-to which, of course, the replies turn into a full-blown riot.
So, congratulations to the winners, condolences to all those whose water shots looked like “a soggy sandwich” (shoutout to onedirection_we for that one), and hey, Ubisoft, maybe toss in those Ezio outfits with the next patch? Just sayin’. The internet never gives up. And now it’s back to drowning our photo-failing sorrows in virtual tears. 🏊♂️💦
