Nintendo did one hell of a thing with that last tweet: Donkey Kong Bananza is set to hit the shelves on July 17. The announcement under #Donkey Kong Bananza caught everyone off-guard, igniting a great blaze of excitement, confusion, and opinions in the entire gaming community.
For starters, the direct thing: The tweet itself is so short and sweet-one dirty date and one hashtag-wild reply. And those replies? What an experience! Some gamers are hyped, and some are cudgeling their heads with confusion, salting their comments everywhere with salty pronouncements, while another one (@MMMSGuy) just outright admitted that, “I don’t know what is going on with this notification.” Exactly that.
Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is: What even IS Donkey Kong Bananza? Typical Nintendo style; they have gone all cryptic on us in the announcement, but judging from the replies, it seems like a new Donkey Kong adventure-maybe a reboot or extension of the classic franchise. One fan (@Qushu92) even termed it his redemption arc, as his N64 met a tragedy before he could finish DK64. Now that is dedication!
Well, plenty others aren’t happy for the announcement. Players such as @Old_Timer_Gamer are already down on Pauline’s singing and asking for more of the Fifty original characters, while others see this announcement as their chance to ask for an update on Mario Kart World, Roblox on Switch 2, and of course, the next Nintendo Direct. Sight-hitter: fistful-of-every-request-all-at-once.
Then, there’s the physical-versus-digital argument. @Babs_Babog warns Nintendo that, should the physical games die, piracy will see a huge rise. Bold, and dangerous to say at that, but they have a point! Fast on the next, @ActualSmur79512 clapped back to assure that Bananza will be hitting the shelves on cartridges. Crisis (maybe) averted?
And certainly, the pity-side chaos involved @LPNintendoITA calling a poor sap a “money grabber Nazi supporter” (ouch) and remembering everyone about amiibo thanks to @VaughnFry. Because, naturally!
So, where does that leave us? Well, forthwith, Donkey Kong Bananza is on its way and already divided gamers. Some are already strapping in for the countdown, some others have decided to give a side-eye to Pauline’s vocal cords, and a handful are just here for the drama. Either way, July 17 is going to be BANANAS. Pun absolutely intended.
Anyway, I’ll be refreshing Twitter for any possible leaks; because, let’s be real- Nintendo is not going to tell us anything else until the very last possible second.
