A small but very heavy update has hit Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the crowd is split about it. Big-release news? Now you can turn off headgear during cutscenes. Finally, some serious moments won’t be ruined by silly hats or enormous hoods!
The announcement came from the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter handle, which posted a short clip of this feature in action. Some have welcomed it with open arms while, as @PNelson73889 puts it, the elevation calls it a “game changer.” Others questioned, “Why is this not in the game at launch?”
“Imagine how bad of a game you have to celebrate that option any normal game has ON LAUNCH,” said @sadcountryhoe, throwing shade on the game.
So, would you say it was worth waiting for? If you worship hilariously inappropriate fashion choices (@LokiJarson, hot tip), then you are in for a treat. “I like making my characters look goofy when a serious story moment is happening,” they tweeted. Same.
However, not all tweets were merry with some complaining about other missing features: “Now we just need ng+,” said @Big_Kahuna765, echoing a very common demand. “Still can’t toggle day/night or seasons,” added @Mattsmash_. Priorities, people.
Then some player was complaining about the horse physics. “@luke420alien: Horse can’t go through a bush and when you climb a hill you slide 100ft down.” Sounds like somebody needs a better steed or, better yet, a grappling hook.
Others had just… checked out. “@assassinscreed still not bankrupt is crazy,” railed @Nyamtaishir1998. Harsh, but fair?
Mixed reactions or no, this update takes Ubisoft back into the limelight as a developer actively involved with the hour of Shadows. Then the question arises; is it enough to lure back the disenfranchised? One thing for sure: You can now finally remove that ridiculous big boy helmet in time for dousing in tears.
So what then? New Game Plus, proper DLC, that horse? The time will tell. For now, bask in your new power of “no headgear,” although some might not be so grateful.
