So here is the real tea-almost someone says Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is getting a remake and all the hype generated is real. Matt Ryan, Edward Kenway’s voice actor, gave a very cryptic hint that got the gamers into a frenzy. He said at a con appearance, “Have you beaten the game?… well, you may have to beat it again.”

Before you start screaming to the universe, let’s delve into it. Black Flag was released in 2013 and is still considered one of the stronger entries to have graced the AC franchise since then. Pirates, naval combat, and shanties-there’s no way to mess this up! Ubisoft, however, has not issued any official statement, so keep that bad rumor down.

The original tweet resulted in complete chaos. Some gamers are already happy—One of the best AC games ever; would love to see the remake, says @Cliffinkent. Others, however, are not happy at all. @HeyItsCY3ER called it outright “one of the worst AC titles,” which…ouch. Then, you have @PixelSpawnX worried that Ubisoft “will figure out a way to fuck it up.” Mali ibonzo, so to say.

Well, the elephant in the room remains as Ubisoft’s track record for doing remakes. The entire Shadow controversy has basically given justifiable reasons to suspect. If doing them right is an unfamiliar concept, allowing this one to happen will definitely be a treat. Imagine Black Flag in modern graphics with smoother gameplay and maybe even much more expanded ship mechanics.

Of course, there are those who are just tired of AC in general. @ArtiFi0 comments that the series “hit its peak a long time ago,” while @Flindellii want Ubisoft to drop Animus sections completely. Now, there is a bold take.

Then we’ve got the conspiracy theorists. @NightGuardian34 joked that the remake “will probably be out before GTA VI,” and honestly? They might not be wrong. @KeijiR6 also shaded Ubisoft for choosing remake projects rather than sorting out Rainbow Six Siege. Priorities, am I right?

And now the real question—really, what would a remake even look like? Keeping the story intact? Fix the clunky parkour? More sea shanties? (Please, Ubisoft. We need more shanties.) @ThoughtTOX is probably right in asking, “What will be different to warrant a second run through?”

One way or the other, this rumor just gets everybody talking, whether you thought Black Flag was a masterpiece or just mediocre. So if this does indeed turn out to be true, then pirates-on it shall be.

So stay tuned for an official announcement. Or don’t. Maybe Ubisoft will just shadow-drop it like they did with that New Zealand Kingdom Hearts announcement. Regardless, the call of the high seas beckons—once more.
