Ubisoft announced that Title Update 1.0.6 will be released tomorrow at noon with new content, and the players are all excited about it. Garnering a lot of fame with this update is a free Critical Role ally and associated questline, a new very difficult challenge mode, the option to toggle off headgear, along with many QoL changes. Yet, people seem to be have an ongoing debate about whether this game is in fact some kind of “generic crap.”
Patch notes came through the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter, with the features people have wanted for the longest time, like not having to keep the HUD element on screen. One player, @Chadllerina, gave the devs some credit for finally giving the player the option to disable “yellow vulnerability glow, white stealth outline, ‘last known position’ effect, and enemy attack telegraph glints.” If this is how people want their immersion, then it means they think the game was a bit too gently on them, really.
Then again, it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. Especially when the peasants start throwing shade @MickeySteamboat is a “nightmare 😂,” whereas @elesar_hunter was even more candid in saying they considered Origins was “much better.” Ouch. Some praises for Odyssey as the better game were received, wild accusations, considering how polarizing it was upon launch. A real unfortunate impact of nostalgia.
Performance questions started flooding in from the replies themselves: @khalid991Z asked about Series S performance; @pepenanquin asked why Naoe’s hair physics weren’t available on console in performance mode. ‘Seriously. When I was playing on PC, it didn’t take any fps,’ they questioned. Devs, how do you explain this sorcery?
They followed up with another question regarding the 19GB size. @SilentHomeRide was hit with ‘Why???’ Which is definitely a good question because coming in that heavy for merely gameplay tweaks and a new difficulty is big. Speaking of which, @JordonR19 ain’t skeletally believing in this nightmare mode, calling it “more tedious than fun.” Meanwhile, @guyfrom_Houston can’t wait to unleash chaos; “Being wanted in all districts going to be fun turning it on tomorrow.”
While some of these fixes are yet to be rolled out, @Locust_wotlk was ranting about custom controls on Xbox being broken months after launch, and @ruined72133 was demanding disguises and interactive hideouts. Apparently, those are everyday missing features for AC. And @TheLcal95v still so salty that trophies bugs on PlayStation were never fixed. Bruh moment, indeed.
The toggle for headgear got @Mr_Dave17 wondering if it means “can you see the hood down when not equipped.” Small detail, huge immersion. Manual control for time of day for night missions is wanted by @Chris16Amazing, whereas @DeezNuggetzzzzz just wants to know if there is “an actual Japanese man we can play as yet.” Sir, this is a historical fiction game.
The Critical Role hype is there, although a bit subdued. @MarcoDiGiulio6 threw in some celebratory emojis, and lore addicts are probably losing their minds with new story content. But truthfully, some people, like @YoBoyJC, forgot this game even existed. Oof.
Anyway, the final verdict? Update 1.0.6 is bringing some major changes, but the Shadows still stand with a big mountain of complaints to address. Nightmare mode and new quests might or might not be enough to bring the critics back though. At least that headgear toggle is a W.
Patch notes are live if you want to get into the nitty-gritty. I suggest clearing out some room for the download because 19GB means serious business.
