The Developer Of The Last Of Us Part 2 Is Excited By The Possibilities Of The SSD Included In The PlayStation 5

Kurt Margenau is the co-director of Naughty Dog’s upcoming The Last Of Us: Part 2. He took a break from putting the finishing touches on this highly anticipated upcoming PlayStation 4 release to talk a bit about the PlayStation 5.

Specifically, he posted excitement regarding the upcoming console’s Solid State Drive, or SSD for short.

“Still tripping about this PS5 SSD spec,” he said on his official Twitter account. “Like, people don’t even know how big of a leap in terms of game design can be made, especially for first party that doesn’t have to design to lowest common denominator. By far the biggest leap in my career. Can’t wait.”

Margenau was correct in stating that most people don’t understand how big of a leap this SSD is going to be for the gaming world. PlayStation did a live stream last week, hosted by lead system architect Mark Cerny regarding the PlayStation 5.

Gamers from all over the world tuned in, expecting some kind of E3-like presentation that would show off the look and specs of the console in an entertaining way.

That’s definitely not what happened.

Instead, we were given an extremely dry and highly technical presentation, where Cerny talked at length about the console, highlighting the lightning fast load times that will be made possible using this SSD technology.

The presentation didn’t go over well with fans, with most looking at the numbers presented as opposed to those for the Xbox Series X. Microsoft seemingly has a leg up on Sony for this console generation in terms of processing power. However, it will be interesting to see how the two compare with one another when they are released during the holiday 2020 season.

Despite talking about the PlayStation 5, Margenau’s game, The Last of Us: Part II, will be coming out exclusively for the PlayStation 4. The game was originally set to be released in February, but was pushed back to May.

Online reports blamed the alleged crunch culture burnout at Naughty Dog for the title’s delay. However, despite this, Naughty Dog has continued to soldier ahead and praise its development team for their work at bringing this highly anticipated sequel to life.

The original The Last of Us game was released exclusively on the PlayStation 3. However, it was eventually remastered and re-released for the PlayStation 4. The difference between the two versions was very noticeable.

It is possible that this could happen again with a remastered version of The Last of Us: Part II on PlayStation 5, but no official word has come down on this rumor.
