The Blackout Club launched on July 30 and surprised fans with its unique brand of horror. The game is a mystery that is solved by teens working together as a creature chases them. The game has welcomed in an unexpected detail to bring a level of surprise and trickery into the horror game.
The detail is something the developers call the Enhanced Horror System. The feature requires players to opt-in and read through its rather lengthy Terms of Service before being allowed to access it. In short, the Enhanced Horror System lets members of the developer’s staff and professional actors hired by them to randomly enter your game and speak to you live.
If you do not like spoilers, then you should stop reading here. This feature is fairly ingrained into the narrative of the game, and knowing the details of it could ruin the experience for some.
In the game, The Blackout Club players can access certain points where they can perform a ritual and speak in their microphones. Sometimes, randomly decided and dependant on a member of the staff being online, a voice will respond. If this happens, the player could be given a secret or an item as a reward. There is no guarantee this will happen, but if it does, it is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience.
The actors behind this play as the in-game roles of Voices, Gods, and Daimons. Their interactions with players are live and recorded so even if you don’t get a firsthand experience; you can still hear whispers of their conversation. Those that are going into the game unaware of this feature are sure to be surprised as the voices are live actors every time.
Question Games describes the feature with audience participation or live theatre feeling to it. Although most of the time, the game won’t talk back the few times it does will have the element of surprise and a new level of horror for the player. It should be noted that all information from this feature can be stored but will only ever be used in-game. They will not sell or share the details outside of the game itself.
The game is already available on Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 for $29.99. If you wish to join the founders club, it will cost an additional $4.99 and be added as a DLC. The Enhanced Horror System will only be available for a limited time, so now is your opportunity to experience a new level of horror.
