Conan Chop Chop is delayed once again. The game was initially planned to launch in late 2019, then in 2020, but now won’t be available until sometime in early 2021. The exact release date is not yet known.
A statement from Funcom goes further into the decision. The developers continue to implement new ideas, new mobs, and traps for the upcoming game. That means Conan Chop Chop will be much bigger than initially planned.
The decision to delay the game was also influenced by the resurgence of cute online co-op games. The developer wanted to make the world bigger with more random events, new traps, and vicious minibosses.
The number of possible item combinations as also increased from 14 trillion to an even higher number that “is now too high for the human brain to fathom.” This ensures almost infinite replayability in a procedurally generated world. Players will continue to unlock new weapons, charms, and armor to use on the next playthrough.
Conan Chop Chop is 1-4 player hack-and-slash Roguelite. The game is developed by Mighty Kingdom while Funcom is handling the publishing. Players can either tackle the challenging game alone or with up to four players in couch co-op mode or online.
Conan Chop Chop is set in a world where the treacherous wizard Thoth-Amon wants to resurrect the ancient evil Xaltotun. If he succeeds, the world will forever be cloaked in darkness and enslavement. Only the player has the power to stop him with the power of chopping.
The game features a cast of stick figures set in the world of Conan the barbarian. The franchise itself is violent, so players should expect plenty of chopping up enemies on the battlefield.
Players will have to fight against ruthless giant bosses. They include The Giant Sand Worm of Koth, The Frost Giant of Vanaheim, and The Fire Skill of Hyperborea. There is also a giant gorilla wearing a bright red cape roaming the dungeons.
Funcom’s Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos commented further, stating:
If we had launched this year, there’d be half the number of cute pigs in the game. And you can’t launch a Conan game without that. And besides, the only crunch we want in our Conan game is the crunch of bones beneath our sandalled feet.
Funcom ensures those waiting for Conan Chop Chop that this will be the final delay.
Conan Chop Chop is now scheduled to launch in early 2021 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
