Arcade cabinets have seen a bit of resurgence as of late. They give you the chance to play some of your favorite arcade games in just one system. For the most part, these cabinets are reasonably priced too.
Sure, they’re usually not full-size cabinets that you would be able to find in stores, but they satisfy your nostalgia kick. Apparently, Capcom is looking to get in on this sector as well.
They recently revealed a very unique looking arcade stick, featuring the Capcom logo in blue, white, and yellow lettering. Right off the bat, this arcade system looks intriguing. We haven’t really seen this type of design for an arcade system yet.
This system will be completely plug-and-play. That’s right. You don’t have to concern yourself with any additional attachments, which should bring the price down in theory. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. It will apparently cost around $199. That’s quite a steep price for a plug-and-play system.
If it costs so much, it has to have a good lineup of games. Right? This depends on who you ask. The system will include a total of 16 games. These include 1944: The Loop Master, Alien vs Predator, Armored Warriors, Capcom Sports Club, Captain Commando, Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness, Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Eco Fighter, Final Fight, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Giga Wing, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Mega Man: The Power Battle, Progear, Strider, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
All in all, this isn’t a bad lineup. It’s amazing to see Alien vs. Predator. It has been one of the better arcade games for such a long time, and unfortunately, you don’t see it around that much. Ghouls ‘n Ghosts is another classic. It’s incredibly difficult, but it has a lot of re-playability. You also can’t go wrong with a Street Fighter game.
As far as this plug-and-play system’s features, it will support HDMI and have a WiFi feature that lets you upload scores online. You can thus see how you stack up against other players who have the system.
Another interesting thing to note about this system is it is designed for two players. You thus won’t need to go out and buy a separate controller. It appears Capcom is marketing this device as a social type of console, one that you’ll want to play with your friends.
From everything that has been revealed, this arcade system seems unique. However, in order to sell well, Capcom will probably need to come down on the price.
