Destiny 2‘s Guardian Games are well underway, pitting the different classes against each other in some friendly games to see which class reigns supreme. We recently discussed the Guardian Games, including Bungie’s discussion over what they were intending to do about the massive gaps in class population, but there’s plenty more to discuss with the formal start of the Games.
Bungie took this week as an opportunity to discuss a handful of other topics – though the Guardian Games are still very much a present matter. Hunters were able to take the first day, but Titans came back to win the second, with plenty more action in the days to come.
Aside from that, production director Justin Truman spoke on a handful of growing concerns, saying the following:
“There’s been a growing list of concerns with the game lately: Trials, the rise in cheaters, our new Seasonal model, the balance between rewards you earn vs. items you buy. We’ve been closely watching and discussing each of these topics as we read your feedback. When our community managers relay that everyone at Bungie is listening, I assure you, we are.”
Truman goes on to discuss the difficulties of addressing issues while assuring that, despite these difficulties, the team is completely committed to addressing them. Truman also admits that fixing the issues “isn’t good enough if we keep you in the dark the whole time,” promising that the team is going to be delivering updates from different members on the dev team to cover the most important topics in the game at the moment, as well their plans moving forward.
For this weekly update, the team lays out three problems, as well as what they intend to do.
The first problem is that Token Rewards are incentivizing players to farm to three wins and reset their card. To fix this, the team intends to create token payout milestones that give successively larger chunks of tokens.
Another issue is that players are finding Trials to be unrewarding for players stuck with one or two wins. As a fix, the developers intend to create a weekly bounty that encourages participation each weekend and doesn’t require wins, which will give the same item that comes from the three-win passage for the week.
Finally, the team acknowledged that Trials feels unrewarding compared to other endgame activities. To help with this, the team will be adding more chances to earn Masterworking materials from Trials to make there be a higher incentive.
There will be plenty more to come, and it’s fantastic to see the team being so transparent with their actions.
