Card games have a special place in the video game sector. Instead of depicting non-stop action, they take a more tactical approach. They are thus great games to play for those who enjoy thinking critically in their spare time.

One of the more promising card strategy games in recent memory is The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game. It was developed by Fantasy Flight Interactive and is currently available on the Steam platform. However, it’s set to release on the PS4 as well. To celebrate this upcoming release, a launch trailer just came out on the PlayStation YouTube channel.

It pretty much breaks down the long history between the evil forces of Sauron and the good of Middle Earth, including humans, dwarfs, elves, and hobbits. It also highlights some of the graphic artwork. The artists responsible have done a great job at capturing the dark and good elements of each force. They set the stage for an epic showdown. Only, instead of an action RPG or third-person hack and slash, you get to wage war with cards.

If you’ve followed the iconic movie series and the novels prior by Tolkien, then this seems like the perfect Lord of the Rings gaming experience. Starting off, you’ll pick three heroes out of an amazing cast of characters. Each hero has a unique sphere of influence, which could be spirit, tactics, lore, or leadership.

The heroes you choose will impact how you combat with the various threats of Sauron. Throughout this card game, you’ll get to go on epic quests in some memorable locations that have been featured in the movies and books. There are hours of gameplay to enjoy. You can decide to brave the campaign alone or go at it with a friend. Either way, a great journey awaits.

All that stands between evil and the end of Middle Earth are your card skills. Each hand matters and every decision you make will determine the fate of this magical world.

According to the game’s description on Steam, a lot of trial and error will occur at first. Slowly over time, though, you’ll see what strategies work out in your favor. For example, if you want to take a more direct approach against enemies, you can choose characters with the same influence. How you play is completely up to you.
