Alienware just dropped the two-kernel bomb of nostalgia on Twitter, leaving the world undecided with an old versus new comparison of the company’s famous PC designs. Captioned “How it started ➡️ how it’s going,” the tweet paints the journey from those clunky early-2000s cases inspired by aliens to this latest spacious tower and almost minimalistic approach. And ooh, boy, the reply section is like a battleground for love-hate-roast wars.

Let’s get to the glow-up. On the left is the OG Alienware case; the one in which one would imagine aliens crashing from Area 51 after shining bright with vents, angles, and a few LEDs signaling the extraterrestrials. On the right is the slick, almost Apple-white monolith shouting, “adult money.” And some gamers seemed to love it! For instance, @Ohmwrecker termed the new look “a work of art.” Others, however, were not such fans. @MichelleFranz4 blurted that the vintage cases had “personality” while the new ones barely had any: “boring, that’s all about them.” Ouch.

And then we all go into nostalgia. @GameOrDie007 threw a real shout to the feels, relating to his high school aspirations about owning an Alienware rig just to run Adobe Premiere 5.0 (relatable). On the same nostalgic note, @Ceej64 dropped down that Alienware was too expensive for them—a reason to learn to build their own PCs. Now, that is one wholesome flex, if you ask me. Not everybody was sentimental, though: @RalabastSmith fired, “Make a PC that lasts more than five minutes after the warranty and then talk shit.” DAMN.

Functionality versus look: another contested territory. @GB_GABV was for the new cooling and performance, yet the @Art1stx replied that the new design is nothing more than an attempt to blend to “every other PC.” @rhinozip2 kept roasting, laughing about needing “2 kidneys” to afford these beasts, while @Killertomato84 wondered if Alienware finally figured out how to install an NVMe drive “without turning it into a banana.” (Dell, we’re waiting on that answer.)

The craziest take? @Wardster420 dropped casually that they had been running a 35k-member Alienware Facebook group for 15 years before Dell allegedly got it deleted. Well, that’s a documentary on its own.

So what’s the verdict? Alienware’s metamorphosis obviously hits differently for everyone. Some miss that ridiculous alien vibe; others became enamored with the clean new look and still others hanker for their PC to survive past the warranty. One thing we can be sure of is that Alienware provides controversy to gamers in both the retro and modern camps. And that triangle case comeback that @CandyJackal1 has been requesting… 👀
