After just three months, the game has already had its first sale, a hefty 25 percent off both at the Ubisoft Store and on Steam, and maybe one could actually say the reactions from the end users have ranged from “mixed to extreme.” Some consider it a win to finally get the game on discount, and some are holding out for an even deeper discount, or, in the very insane cases, unwarranted compensation for just playing the game.
The discount puts the Standard Edition at roughly $52, price varying by region, yet this neither stopped the sarcastic nor outright hostile replies from flooding Ubisoft’s announcing tweet. One gamer going by the handle @Anelist_EC took it to the next level by writing, “Pay me to play it.” @kylowrex escalated in sarcastic tones, saying, “Tell me once it’s 101% off you’re paying me to play this slop.” Ouch!
That said, a few appreciated the initiative. @backloggedgamr said: “This why I love Ubisoft. They always put their games on sale after a few months.” Meanwhile, @nuraiba1989 claimed some players, like @alexgraytrust, have been waiting for the opportunity to jump into the game.
Meanwhile, the darker side was loud. @Ethflavor called Shadows “a disgrace of the AC legacy,” while @recsynthesis went berserk with the words “Dead game. Dead company.” Some criticisms were in a more technical manner: @sadeceKAAN ventilated over patches that “fix something but end up breaking things that were working fine,” while @DavidNonNobis exclaimed in rage, “FIX THE FUCKING UI IN THE PHOTOMODE!!!”
Optimization concerns also arose, with @khalid991Z inquiring about the optimization for Xbox Series S and @defau1tgam3r questioning which is more troublesome to launch, the Steam version or the Ubisoft Connect version. (Spoiler alert: Neither is great.)
There were a few just looking for a bigger discount. @SomaVidz said to wait till the price was under $20, while @Yleyva87 joked: “I will wait one more month when it reaches 15 bucks.” More patient, @StitchPresley_ said: “I’ll try it when it’s around $10.”
Some positive comments managed to sneak in—@EzzMartinko said to @IceeMikoo that the game was “good” yet felt short, getting the platinum trophy in 51 hours, plus @mcravercore chimed in: “Got shadows on the xbox,” implying no complaints.
The general vibe, however, is… not so great. Either it’s the wailing over Ubisoft’s patching cycle, mourning the franchise’s direction, or your typical gamer skepticism toward full-priced releases; AC Shadows isn’t really garnering a positive reception, even at 25 percent off.
So, really, if you’ve ever sat on the fence about it, now would be just about the right time to grab it on discount. Judging from the replies, though, I predict many will remain in the cooling-off stage, waiting for the next inevitable half-off holiday sale. Or, y’know, actually waiting to get paid by Ubisoft to play.
