If you have a PS4 and are looking for a particularly gripping side-scroller to get wrapped up in, then put your attention towards A Tale of Paper. It’s one of the more interesting platformers to come out in some time and it’s now officially available on the PS4.

The game is dripping in personality and the visuals really wrap you in the story from the jump. You could almost compare the mechanics and graphics to the Little Big Planet games, although A Tale of Paper is much more moody and foreboding. That’s a good thing because it adds suspense that’s perfect this time of year with Halloween coming up in just a couple of days.

You get to play as Line, who is unique in that he’s made out of completely paper. That comes with some inherent advantages and disadvantageous. You can shape-shift into different things that will aid in your progression throughout every level. For example, you can change shapes and then fly like superman. This shape-shifting ability gives you a lot to play around with and use to your advantage.

However, since you are made out of paper, there are things you’re more vulnerable to. That includes cleaning machines and water. They are the bane of your existence and the fact that you don’t have any weapons to counter them ups the difficulty.

If you’re careful about where you go and how you approach obstacles, you’ll be able to progress and gain new information about the mysterious world that you now find yourself surrounded by.

Looking at gameplay from the most recent trailer, it’s clear that A Tale of Paper is a visually appealing game. Every stage is well detailed and has a lot of fantasy elements that make the worlds seem more like a dream than reality.

The scale of Line next to objects also makes this game very unique from a visual standpoint. You can’t help but fall in love with the graphics and want to explore these stages as quickly as you can.

It’s endearing to see a unique and compelling game like A Tale of Paper still come out for the PS4, even though the PS5 is just around the corner. The console continues to sell well and that doesn’t seem like it will change with the PS5. If you’re up for a unique adventure and some amazing platforming elements, then A Tale of Paper is a great experience worthy of your time.
