Blizzard continues with their holiday events today with the launch of their Day of the Dead event, celebrating the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos in-game. This event will continue through to November 3rd, so you don’t have long to act!
Día de los Muertos comes just after the end of Halloween, and as such, the event in World of Warcraft does the same for Hallow’s End! With the end of the Hallow’s End event, Day of the Dead is now accessible.
Unfortunately, the event in World of Warcraft is significantly more stripped back than the Hallow’s End event, so don’t go expecting the same level of care and content.
There’s still quite a bit to do to celebrate, so don’t be disheartened, even if you don’t have the chance to grind out a dungeon boss for his unique mount! The Day of the Dead event comes with some achievements, collectibles, and activities to complete.
“The spirit world draws close during the Day of the Dead,” Catrina, the leader of the event, states through her dialogue. “This is why we decorate the graves of our dearly departed with flowers and candles and offerings: To welcome them back, even if only for a time.”

“So come! Dance with me! Let us cherish and honor those we have lost in their ghostly presence so that they might eat and drink and smile and know that they are loved.”
The dialogue specifically mentions one of the events one can do – find Catrina and dance with her to take the form of a skeleton! This will also allow players to earn the achievement Dead Man’s party.
The unique item Bread of the Dead is another unique obtainable, with players able to grab the recipe from Chapman in any city graveyard. The vendor is available for everyone, selling a few other goodies to make sure you can grab your collectibles.
There are a few other achievements for players to earn as well – To the Afterlife is available to those that dress as a contender and then defeat another contender, for example. Contenders are able to dress up in a Blooming Rose, Night Demon, Purple Phantom, Santo’s Sun, and Snowy Owl costume for their festivities.
Players can also acquire four toys through the event, obtaining them through professions like archaeology as well as purchasing them from a few different vendors. Whatever your goal for this holiday is, you only have until the 3rd to accomplish it, so don’t waste any time in beginning your celebration!
