Qualification Trials have just been introduced back in Destiny 2 by Bungie, and the reactions of the players have been… well, they weren’t sunny in any manner, much less rainbows. The map structured for this week is Twilight Gap, and judge the reward weapon as the Yesterday’s Question (Adept). But instead of hype, the reply comes with rage, confusion, and “WHY THIS MAP???” energy.
Regarding Twilight Gap: Some consider it a nostalgic piece from the Destiny 1 era, while others call it “dog ass” (thank you, @gbrllog). Oppressive in its design, Twilight is chaos-and that might just have been a fair design for an older Destiny PvP era. Players continue complaining about spawn traps, suspicious sightlines, and just in general, frustrating aspects of a sandbox-y Destiny 2 for quite some time now. @TheRealDabos has even gone on to say that the map was made with Destiny 1’s slow movement in mind, such that it made implementation for any current meta quite difficult.
Then there is Yesterday’s Question (Adept). Some are grasping at whether they should even bother grinding for Adept weapons as they really won’t matter in future content. @Blacktwo__ just asked: “Is there any point in getting weapons since Adepts wonβt matter in EOF?” That’s a fair enough question, given how brutal the Trials grind already is.
Outside of the map, this is where the drama actually lies with the entire Trials playerbase begging Bungie for a map change. @fiveefiveee pleaded, “yo get us off this map dawg like i play the game everyday and buy ur silver just give us a good mapπ»π»π»ππππ”
Then came @lyesval with: “This map is fucking terrible rethink ur choices cause ur game is dying.”
Then there were the cheaters. @Revjerryo sarcastically alluding to Bungie finally catching the “giant ghost guy” after more than a week, with many more joking about the Trials population dropping to six players. @JustBlameCasual had tweeted, “Trials pop of 6 players hyped,” which, sad to say, might just not be far from the truth if the unpopularity of this map continues.
The Twiligh Gap defenders, like @ThatUnknownyt, said it’s “amazing for Cerberus+1”. What they say is `amazing` is drastically outweighed by the hate, with @AlexLes12312 making fun of the said combo as “twilight ass and the worst hc in the game,” calling that combo an “insane combo.”
Which comes to the real question: Why, why now, Twilight Gap? Players have been clamoring for Javelin-4 to be returned to them, with @iCON_Riot saying, “So word on the street is the comm wants Jav 4.” And so we go with a map that’s splitting the community harder than a Trials match against a three-stack of cheaters.
It is utterly clear now that the choices of Bungie for map rotation… are questionable. Whether it is poorly-implemented nostalgia bait or the third punishment of bad luck, Twilight Gap shall stay this weekend, where either players will suffer through it or sit this one out. Maybe next week, we’ll have a good oneβor at the very least, a bad one that doesn’t wish everyone to uninstall.
For the brave, good luck in the Trials for now. You’re gonna need it. And maybe a therapist.
