Alright, Tomb Raider addicts-or Doppelgänger addicts! The official Tomb Raider account on Twitter gave us a spicy question: There are three different doppelgängers in the Tomb Raider franchise; do you know the differences? And it sure went livelier than Lara’s dual pistols could have fired.
To start, this must be explained further for the uninitiated. The Tomb Raider franchise has had tons of clones, copies, and moments where one could say, Oh, that’s not Lara shots. Trouble is:
1. Bacon Lara – Yes, that is indeed the name that fans have used for this kind of ugly clone barren of flesh and gray-heads variant from Tomb Raider: Legend. Forgive me, but imagine it’s Lara forgetting to put on sunscreen…for all eternity.
2. Underworld Doppelgänger – The snarky red-headed demon-styled puppet from Tomb Raider: Underworld (hell, Xbox exclusive DLC; enough said for making many PC owners bitter).
3. Anniversary’s Doppelgänger – A bit more classical and eerie in approach from Tomb Raider: Anniversary, arguably a remix of the original all-time doppelgänger from the original game.
And here comes the drama-the crowds are divided. Some loudly clamor for Underworld’s Doppelgänger to get a spin-off (she had style, she had sass!) and the others still cry over the Underworld DLC being locked behind Xbox exclusivity. Another wise guy remarked: Good thing we have emulators now to deal with Microsoft’s clownery. Ouch.
But then there were those Bacon Lara fans—really, they do exist. Bacon Lara 🥓🥓🥓 echoed through the replies like a cult chant. Others pointed out that there is considered to be technically a fourth doppelgänger—Mirror Lara from Lara Croft GO—but hey, no need to complicate things.
But the kicker: In all the clone discussions were desperate cries for real Tomb Raider news. LAU remasters when? TR12 news PLEASE??? One fan threatened to release Natla from the remnants of Atlantean health chambers if Crystal Dynamics did not update at the very least. Rough, but fair.
So who gets the Doppelgänger Crown? Underworld seems to be the crucible’s favorite (she clears!) with a strong contestant in Bacon Lara, who holds the glory of being a meme queen. We honestly don’t care about the answer to this.
