The demo for the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has been available for just over a week for those who have the title pre-ordered. Some clever sleuthing by Twitter user Darth Bellic has uncovered an unexpected surprise in the demo’s code: files for a Nintendo Switch version of the game.

The files reveal multiple control schemes for a Nintendo Switch port, which also reveals compatibility with the Switch Pro Controller. As of right now, the game has only been announced for the PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.

This reveal would suggest that a Nintendo Switch port is in the works. The delayed Switch release would fall in line with titles like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy, both of which were published by Activision. Those titles also saw a Switch release a few months after hitting the other consoles.

However, all this really proves is that Activision was considering a Switch port at some point during development. It’s entirely possible that the plans were scrapped at some point and the control scheme instructions are just remnants left behind. Ports are cancelled all the time and this could easily be one of them.

The game comes out soon, so if a Switch port is in the cards, chances are we’ll hear about that soon, too.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a remaster of the first two games in the series, which were released in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Along with a Create-A-Skate mode, the game will also feature a new roster of young and up-and-coming skateboarders. It will be the first major title in the series since Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 released in 2015. Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam, a free-to-play mobile game, was released for iOS and Android in 2018.

The full list of playable skaters has leaked online, which can be found easily enough by searching. There are spoilers in the list, however. Not story spoilers, mind you, but there are a few surprise characters that are revealed.

All things considered, a Nintendo Switch port makes sense and it’s hard to imagine a reason that they wouldn’t port it. With the other versions hitting on September 4, they could release a Switch port a few months later, just in time for the holidays.

Are there Switch owners out there who’d like to see the game come to the console? There has to be a sizable audience who wants to shred. Do the kids still say that? Shred?
